Smile Just Bought a New 4 Wheeler

I gave my 2002 King Quad to my dad and went and bought a 2009 Honda Rancher 420 ES ,
water cooled 420cc OHV longitudinally mounted engine with electronic fuel injection. I paid the extra $ and got the Power-steering and thumb operated electronic power shifting system Model , i also bought a Warn Winch and a 48" snow plow.

I did not go with the Auto/Manual option because i do not like independent rear suspension on a quad for the kind of riding i do.

if you have ever rode in a pack with strait axle rear ends and independents you will quickly see where the advantages and disadvantages are, you cannot flip your rear end around corners with Independent... you will end up laying in the trees.

how ever for slow rock climbing ect Independent is the best ..

4 wheel drive engages slikly smooth and gear shifts are completely effortless and if you in high water you dont even need your feet on the floor boards

the Electronic Fuel injection is a god send ... no more cold nature and hard starts ,

even has a sealed battery !! which is a big deal to me

being liquid cooled with a fan is a must my 2002 king Quad would over heat all the time unless you opened it up wot every 30 mins of riding.

Power Steering ,,, my goodness this is a dream , can turn on black top with your pinky finger

so far ive been an owner for 1 hour and im outta here and hitting the trails

i heat with fire wood , and i have 500 yards of driveway to plow snow off every winter or i cant go to work. cannot take a tractor and plow the hill i would be dead , the 2002 King Quad worked its *** off for 8 years , i figured it would be close to $2000 to get it where i would need it for this winter , there is no not being prepared. its either get things in place or be stranded.

my dad dont have a 4 wheeler and i told him he could have my 2002 if he wanted and i gave him the number for a guy that will tare it all down and give it some tlc , the snow plow was also damn near destroyed , i figure about $100 and a few hours of welding and it will be use able ..

so i was looking at the investment ... and i have been married 12 years today and was talking to my wife about a new quad and she told me to go buy one.... so i did, 2 hour later i was on the over grown trails i used to ride with my king quad before i trashed it

when riding dirt (woods) trails and you come to a corner when you have a strait axle rear end you can punch it and throw your weight around and kick the rear end loose and whip it around the corner, like power slide around it i guess

how ever , try that with an IRS and the outer tire buckles under the quad and pitches you off the seat into the trees

i know from experiences

I load up the big tailor today its 4 feet wide and 8 feet long , i would say i was 2 times the suggested towing weight and i was going up a winding 45* hill , now my 2002 would of powered out , the Rancher just blew threw the rear tires and i had to put it in 4x4.

IRS has better traction but that can be good or bad , sometimes you want to kick the rear loose.

I also learned that gearing is a major factor the 2002 king quad has like 21 different combination and with the IRS i could put it in super low Diff lock and pull backwards quads with twice the CC, pretty impressive!

ive had my new rancher to 48 MPH , from the videos ive seen its rev limited to 55MPH , for about $400 i can get a pipe and tuner for it , but i think its fine the way it is , would rather ditch the factory rims before i do anything ....well first thing is to pay it off , my goal is 2 years
