I try to by whole foods and/or natural foods and avoid the prepackaged stuff.
Sure, it takes longer to cook a meal but the healthy trade offs are worth it, AND it costs less.
I spend about $200/month and eat GRRRRRRRRRRRREAT.
My doctor told me that my diet is part of the reason I've come through so well, getting the natural vitamins and nutrients from fresh vegetables, fruit, nuts, etc.
I eat a ton of seafood, too.
