How did you get the diesel bug? What made you get your first diesel?

I think I can say that when I picked up my first issue of Diesel Power mag in 2005 when I was 13 years old and started reading about a bright yellow 05 Super Duty, I got hooked. I've driven my parents crazy about diesels ever since, randomly rambling numbers and info off and I get that look that says "I don't care" or "I don't understand, so I don't care". 5 years and 3 gas trucks later, I got my first diesel. While it may be old, slow, and extremely gutless compared to modern diesels, I'm happy that I finally own a diesel powered truck.

I forgot that the black smoke also greatly influenced my decision to get a diesel. If only my truck smoked more

What made you get your first diesel?
I got my first diesel a year after an auto accident(head on against a drunk driver)Most of my life i've always wanted a diesel, but i had to drive gas vehicles after i got my drivers license because thats all my parents had. While riding around with my dad in california while visiting my grandma we passed by a dealership, where i saw a 1993 ford truck with a 7.3IDI.After i took it for a test drove,i knew i had to have it.So i called the lawyers and had them issue me a check for the truck and i bought it.I had a grin plastered on my face for days, and it was hard enough after that for my grandma and dad to peel me out the truck.Four years later i needed a little more power out of the truck because it had a hard time pulling my fifth wheel. At this point,i didn't know about the aftermarket parts,so i sold it.(regret selling it)Then i bought a ford gasser. It had the power to pull my travel trailer, but got crappy fuel milage.
(How did you get the diesel bug?)
I got the diesel bug after i bought my dodge. One of the first mods i did was put a new exhaust on it.After i drove the truck out of the shop and felt a little more power and the sound of the new exhaust,i was hooked.I needed more power, had to have it.And i still do.

When I test drove my old 01 at the dealership, the power was great fer a big ole truck, I dont remember about the smoke. I was looking at a gasser, but came out with the CTD

ya um...test drove the 6.0 and needed a diesel (or a big gas motor) and at that time chevy quit putting the big motor in the 1500 hd so i decided since im gunna get a 3/4 ton to get a big motor i may as well pay the extra and get the diesel. best decision i ever made was to get the diesel. worst decision i ever made was to get the ford......

I bought my first diesel when I was 17 mostly because the truck was cheap. It is a 83 chevy 4x4 with a 6.2 that a older guy my dad was friends with owned and could no longer drive it because his legs where not what they used to be and it was a standard. Now I know the 6.2 is no power house but after driving the truck I realized it was getting about 25 mpg and feel in love with it.

it all started when we got our 95 stroker. i loved the sound of a cold 7.3 starting. i then popped on the net and started learning everything i could about it. i ended up joining a forum a learning about other diesels. I was bound and determined to get me a 7.3 before i joined the forum. after doin tons of research i bought an 02 Duramax and then one of my friends talked me into straight piping it. sence then i have been power hungry. after i wrecked my 02 i upgraded to an 04.5 with the LLY. Sence then its been non stop.

my friend liked them and my dad drove a tdi passat for work so i had to get one. my old 6.5 might not have much power but it beats driving a gasser 350
