Default migraines

Does anyone else suffer from Migraines? I don't mean the occasional... migraine here and migraine there, I mean you are on medication for it. I'm just trying to find out how common it is to be diagnosed with it. It runs in my family with the women. If you have been dianoised with it, how old were you and what medication do you take for it.

I have had migraines since I was 8 years old, I was diagosed when I was 16, I take Imitrex 100MG. Triggers are bright light....aka the sun... you will NEVER see me outside without sunglasses on, so if you wanna see my blue eyes you better take me indoors and stress is the other trigger. The longest one I have had was a little over 72 hours... I laid in bed and cried and puked a few times....the next day my doctor told me I was having migraines.

so how about yall?

yea yea i know its a boreing thread, but im curious

I have them also but I do not take medicine because it never worked. I got one Saturday night at the Jimmy Buffett concert, talk about miserable.

I usually turn the AC as cold as I can get it, cover my head with a pillow with an bag of frozen peas between my head and my pillow.

The trick is to catch them as soon as they are coming on and hit 4 Advil and an energy drink (lots of caffeine).

Another cause for Migraines is hypertension (high blood pressure). In my case mine are usually caused from elevated BP that gets near stroke level. If you have never been checked for hypertension you should, it may be as easy as getting that under control, if you have hypertension ask for a pill called Lotril, it is the only one I have taken that does not make me irritable, angry, lazy and tired plus I can still drink cold beer.

I do not have any blood related issues... i have great blood pressure... They gave me a book to sit down and write where I'm at, what I'm doing, indoors outdoors... when migraine struck... I was usally at school ( stress).... or driving home ( stress plus sun) I have really good controll over mine... but only if I have meds... which I have on me at all times!....I try not to let things bother me ....however.. I have one right now... but i also just got home from the dentist to get my over seas dental clearance ..and a cleaning.....

I've had them since I was in the 3rd grade. I'm not on prescription meds but I carry a bottle of Excedrin Migraine everywhere I go. It doesn't kill a full-blown migraine but it'll usually head one off if I take them soon enough. If I don't , I'm in for at least a day of pure misery. Beyond the debilitating pain, my hands and face will go numb, eyes won't focus right and ultimately will start vomiting. At that point, all I can do is lock myself in a dark room and TRY to sleep it off.

Most common triggers are strong perfume smells like scented candles or potpourri. Just walking by the candle isle in Wal-mart can destroy me. Urethane automotive paint being sprayed can also put me down. Also, stress in my neck, just below my scull can turn ugly fast. Luckily, if my chiropractor can get my head screwed on straight soon enough, the migraine (if it manifests) is easier to lose.
