To make the annual list of the richest Americans, one can't be just a billionaire. The net worth of those at the bottom of the Forbes 400 is $1.3 billion.
Forbes says 82 billionaires did not make the list this year.

#220 -- Clay Mathile.
I worked for his company (Iams) and met the man personally....actually played 18 holes of golf at Dakota Dunes CC with him, the plant manager, and my boss at the time.
Very nice man, extremely down to earth. Made most of his money from Iams and even more when he sold it to Proctor & Gamble.
Dan-
#1 -- Bill Gates.
Pretty much everyone up here has seen him in person at least once, his house is right on the lake and I've been by it numerous times in a boat. You can get about 200' from it in the water before the security boats cast off to see what you're up to.
If you're curious, his address is:
1835 73rd Ave NE
Medina, WA 98039

I am fairly sure that my mom's uncle used to make it before he died ans his wealth was split 8 ways. He invested in Wal-Mart when it first became aviable and just kept buying his whole life and never took any out. The family will not tell any of us how much he was worth but I know it was at least a few billion.
