n uncle bubba, where do ya live n what are ya lookin to grown, shade trees or somethin u can get some return from?
Well now that ya ask. I want somethin I can plant about every 15 feet around a section of my property, about 5 acres worth. This means that they have to be cheap. I'm thinkin in terms of some years here but I want to get some tree's started now that within a few years will be big enough to use as living fence posts. I'm tired of replacing rotted posts. It's all clay. It's all well drained and not wet ground at all but when it rains the clay hold the moisture in the post holes like a glass of water and rot's em. I used to have access to creosote that worked good but I can't get that anymore.

This is also pasture ground so I have to be careful with some of these ornamental's. I'm right in the middle of Illinois. If you can give me some ideas I can check with the local extension office about toxicity issues. I've tried some of these so called fast growing hedges ya order through the catalogs that say grows 20ft in the first year. Planted about 300 of em in a few different kinds, out of them about a dozen actually grew and are about waist high here 8 years later.

Plant some truffula trees. I got a handful of them around my place and they're awesome.

Congrats! I wish that I would have finished... I didn't need it (family business) but I would have loved to say I accomplished it...
