Default Weird letter I got from a lawyers office

So my mom called me last night to tell me that I got a letter from a lawyers office. It was one of those generic letter you get when you get a speeding ticket sayin " we will help you get out of your ticket". Here's the thing though, I haven't lived with my mom in over four years and it was addressed to my maiden name which I haven't had in four years. On top of that it's a ticket in Dallas county which I haven't been even pulled over there in like at least seven years. I went to Dallas countys web site and entered the case number on the letter and it says it's invalid. On the website it says if you are having trouble finding your ticket to call the precienct that you recieved the ticket in. Well there is like ten preciencts and those phone calls would probably take forever to find out what's going on. I'm afraid to call the lawyer and have them tell me to just forget it if it's not my current name. I'm afraid someone stole my idenity or old idenity and I really don't want to end up with a warrant. I got pulled over by a state trooper in April for window tint and got a ticket. So I would assume he ran my name and I don't have a warrant now. What would you do?

Well yea that's what I'm trying to do! But I don't know anything about the ticket like what precinct it is from. I'm pretty sure that other precincts don't know about other precincts tickets this early on. I mean it would be easy to pick up the phone and call ten different places and wait on hold who knows how many times If I didn't have a one year old who wants to talk on the phone and screams in the back ground the whole time I'm on the phone . It would be nice if I could find just one general info line for all of Dallas co but I can't.

Im thinking its a scam to get you to send money to the lawyers office.. I would start with calling the lawyers office to see if its a lagit firm. Then ask them whats up with the ticket. Thats what I would do...GOOOD LUCK

hmmmmmmmm so that really sucks that there is not just one place to call and find out.what about one place to call and find out if your identification has been messed with then you wouldnt have to worry so much about the ticket thing so much until you could get the time

Well that's kinda what I thought. I searched them and they have reviews even bad ones saying they are impossible to get ahold of. Their address is listed as right down the road from my husbands work. But he probably dosent have time to go there today. I may try to call them but even if they say it was a accident I will still be nervous. With the custody thing I'm fixing to start the last thing I need is a warrant on my record.

I didn't even know something like that existed

I called the lawyers office and they said they get their list from the citys so I need to take it up with the city. I found a 311 number for general info for Dallas county but it said my number could not be completed as dialed.

well I called Dallas got transfered 30 times and finally gave up once I was transfered to a all automated system with no option to speak to a human. But out of the people I spoke to none of them knew what to do. So I'm going to the local license office which is also a state trooper office. So hopefully one of the two can help me!

I talked to a state trooper who at first said he thought it was idenity theft. Then he called Dallas and they said that case number is from a ticket in 2002 that was for speeding but was dismissed. Other than that I had no speeding tickets in either name. So he called the lawyers office and at first they knew who I was an said I was a client. Then he said well I'm officer ____ and that ticket was from 2002 and was dismissed so I'm trying to figure out why you are sending her letters for it. After that they wernt really sure who I was or why I recieved a letter. The officer I talked to does nothing but fraud cases so he's now thinking this lawyers office is scamming people. I'm at my moms house trying to break in because he wants the letter to go after them. Hope I don't go to jail for breaking in her house .
