I do one similar to yours:

1lb ground beef
1 small copped onion
1 bag frozen soup vegetables
1 jar Heinz brown gravy
salt and pepper

mix above ingredients and put in a greased pan.

potato topping:
2lbs of potatoes
1 brick cream cheese
1 small-med container sour cream

mash potatoes and mix in cream cheese and sour cream. Place potatoes on top of meat filling. Add several pats of butter to top of potatoes. Place in oven at 350* for 45 minutes. cool several minutes before serving.

I use green beans, corn, stewed tomatoes and some garlic in my sheperds pie.
