I'm on my way to Oregon!
if you can legally purchase an AK-47!!!!! heck yeah!
apparently ANY part of a (true) AK-47 is illegal in the USA currently unless it's been torch cut in like 6 places, stuck with civilian knockoff's.. but apparently Oregon found a way around the federalies.

And this is a journalist writing about guns; we all know how accurate they tend to be. This story seems to be missing quite a bit in the way of "details".

God I love that ID chart! it's so true,
a TRUE AK-47 ASSAULT RIFLE being one made by Kalashnikov and capable of select fire. Military grade.
My guess is it was a WASR-10 or something similar, same action and whatnot as an AK but no select fire mode.
wonder if he realized that when he was being illegally arrested for doing nothing wrong he had the full legal right to shoot to kill any of the illegally arresting officers/swat/fbi agents?

AK's are manufactured in dozens of places all over the world because they are cheap, reliable, and easy to make. Their value as a weapon of choice for anyone who can afford something better is debatable. They are also a great liberal media anti-gun vector (Begle's chart) due to their popularity from regular appearances in war zones and crime scenes.
And yes, semi-auto versions of various flavors including some officially classified as pistols by the ATF are very legal to own and carry in this country.
As far as what happened to the guy in Oregon who apparently got boned, I agree there is alot more to this story that needs told before I'll draw any conclusion. There was a guy here in Denver not too long ago making bombs who technically did nothing illegal either up to the point he was arrested, apart from plotting to blow up the NY subway among other targets.
Pick your poison.

well one thing here...
He was not "arrested" he was moved to a mental hospital for an evaluation based on a interview with the police and the police believed that he "may be a danger to himself or others". If the doctors do not believe that he is a danger then they will release him..
In California it is Welfare and institutions code 5150.
it is there to protect people.. there is no criminal or arrest record as a result of this. If he is found to e of sound mind then his weapons will be returned.

Also, we don't know what the cops know. The employer may have told the cops that the guy "threatened" the employer. The negotiator may have gotten "something psychological" out of him. For now we're just Monday morning quarterbacking.

He will have both a medical "mental health" file and a mental health file accessible to the law dogs saying he was detained and sent to a locked mental health facility as a danger to himself or others.......
Plus how much money will it take for him to get his property returned & what is it worth loosing his constitutional rights and being locked up...
This man in this story was profiled and his rights violated. What happened to him, regardless of race, is no less offensive to liberty than arresting black people and taking them to jail because they were in the wrong neighborhood.
These law dogs spent all kinds of tax dollars, wasted public resources, disrupted the peace of a neighborhood, terrorized innocent families not even involved with the man, and violated a man's rights based on a profile with less basis in fact than only white men can be serial killers.
What's next? Every time a gun owner gets fired, we take them to jail and confiscate their guns with no legal process? That's no joke as we are damn close to it now with Domestic Violence laws.

Don't worry they will place him in a 72 hour hold that will turn into life in imprisonment for believing in in God, the bible, owning guns, drinking beer and being a white middle aged man who is a terrorist due to serving in the US military......
