the problem with these toyotas (i was a toyota tech for several years) is that theyre all computer controlled, and the cars with the keyless ignition (especially prius) wont shift unless the electronic brake sensors notice its being stopped and then itll switch. but with these sensors going out and people losing there brakes, it doesnt signal the computer to allow it to shift. and they wont shut themselves off either at speeds. the people driving these faulty cars are doomed inside of them there isnt really anything they can do that fast. thank god i left toyota a couple years ago

That's insane... I thought by law there had to be a way to manually pull a vehicle out of gear and put it into neutral for this exact reason. I guess I was wrong. But either way, that should have been incorporated into the design just as a safety precaution in case something ever happened in an emergency. I can't help but think the engineers were a little short sighted on this.

Theoretically you can pull them out of gear under WOT.

If you want to start listing vehicles with full-electric throttles and transmissions, the list is extensive. It includes Diesel pick-ups and Class 8 semis.
