Everyone has there own fav. camera but I've done a lot of research over the years to find a camera with all the specs I want and have learned a lot. I take Portarits, wallart, and recently started taking product pictures for Wicked Diesels Web site (The Eliminator) if you want to see my pics.

After my suggestion earlier I would add these for ease of use...these suggestions are for the amature or occasional photographer though you'll find these suggestions will suit even those shooting more than the occasional family pics...

Select a camera with removable media...preferably something you have a dock/slot on you computer/printer to download from, you won't have to run the batteries down or purchase an adapter for your camera...suggested media: SD or Compact Flash...

Also (though some don't approve ) select a camera with an easily obtainable power source: AA batteries can either be purchased almost anywhere or recharged if you choose that route...

Another must is reasonable zoom: you'll find yourself wishing you had purchased more zoom and 6X optical is about as low as you'll want to buy...digital zoom should only be a consideration with the higher mega pixel cameras though it should always be a secondary consideration...

A 6 or greater mega pixel camera will offer enough resolution for fairly large blowups and should be considered the bottom line...

 

Just to add a few cents here, I'd also recommend some type of digital imaging software if you don't already have something. Every camera I have, from the "free" cell phone camera to my rather expensive Nikon, benefits from a little post processing. I personally use Paint Shop Pro but there are many good programs out there from mild($) to wild($$$).
