The Harley Rider
A Harley biker, riding by the zoo in Washington , DC saw a little girl leaning into the lion's cage. Suddenly, the lion grabed her by the cuff of her jacket and tried to pull her through the bars. Her screaming parents were paralized with fear.
The biker jumped off his Harley, ran to the cage and hit the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.
Whimpering from the pain, the lion jumped back letting go of the girl, and the biker picked he up brought her to her terrified parents, who thanked him endlessly.
A Washington Post reporter who has watched the whole event, approached the Harley rider and said, 'Sir, that was the most gallant and brave thing I've ever seen a man do.'
The Harley rider replied, 'Why, it was nothing sir. The lion was behind bars and I just saw this little girl in danger and did what I felt I had to do.'
The reporter said, 'Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist with the Washington Post, and tomorrow's paper will have this story on the front page... So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have?'
The biker replied, 'I'm a U.S. Marine and a I'm a Republican.' The journalist thanked him and departed.
The following morning the biker bought a copy the Washington Post to see if it did indeed report news of his actions. The front page read:
"U.S. MARINE ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS FOOD."
And that, my friends, pretty well sums up the media's approach to the news these days.
