There would have to be a gear reduction of some sort, you would throw the track in a heart beat at full speed. You would also have to run the machine at to low of RPM to be able to push it through the nasty stuff to keep the tracks slow enough without the reduction. Top speed for the ones I was lookin at for our Dodge trucks was 45mph.

Kev,
I only have experience with the tracks Polaris sells for the Rangers and ATVs. They work exceptionally well in the snow--basically the machine becomes and quad track snowmobile-- but they are NOT recommended for dry ground, dirt, sand, mud, or the like.
The track undercarriage is designed like a standard sled, and not having the snow for lubrication will burn up the wheels in short order, and any mud/dirt/debris will tear the heck out of everything.
Aftermarket tracks might be a more user friendly choice. The Polaris units do work great in the snow, though.
