surface area.

regular tires will not do it. if the snow is too deep it wil go no where.

traxs are far better than tires.

to the guy that said they suck. did you see 4 wheelers with tires go through the same spots? because if you do the math with traks the pressure they put over an area is far less than tires which mean they will stay on top more than tires. have someone run over your foot with tracks and then run over your foot with tires on it. you probably wont feel the tracks.

I have done lots of ATV driving and if the snow is higher than the clearance of your machine than no matter what you go nowhere even with chains and 4x4.
so if he is using this thing to get up into the mountains to his camp Im sure there will be quite a bit of snow.

i think the tracks might be right on for the snow. my own experience and opinion with atv's and snow tells me to stay on the top layer if possible and go like hell. i don't see these tracks allowing you to really fall through...atleast not easily. now mud, as said before, is a whole different story and i see them being useless for mud.

I'm the only one that said they didnt like them so I assume you are talking about me???? Yes actually I went through the same hole and exited the hole on my own unlike the guy with traks that got winched out. And as I stated im talking about mud not snow I know nothing about riding in snow. Please re read my post because I believe you took it in the wrong way since I never said "they suck"

Oh and for the record last time I check I didnt qualify being called a guy (but I sure hope nothing has changed since the last time I checked)

they arent usless in mud.

I dont know what that guy on the ATV was doing but he apparently didnt know how to drive because I can guarantee that the trax are better and for the snow it isnt even close.

I know you're a girl. I thought Bubba posted that. sorry

they are useless in deep mud like we ride in if they wernt more people would be running them instead of 29" tire's and 31" tires. Its really pointless to argue about it all I can say is come down to Texas for Mud Nationals and tell me how many people you see with trax's at a event that pulls well over 10,000 people I bet you can count the number of 4 wheelers with trax's on one hand.

the reason why more people dont use them is because of the price tag. thats all.

Ive seen them in mud on ATVs and trucks and regular tires dont even compare.
Granted you can go and stop in the middle of a mud hole, nothing is going to prevent sinking except floaties.

Im not arguing Im just stating fact. why would the military be putting them on the hummers and tanks. why would excavating equipment have them? could you imagine a dozer with tires?

The guy that owns the local Polaris srore is a friend of mine and last year he had 4 trax set up on a 6x6 and he was renting it out..................alot of utility companys were trying it out and all of them said it went better in the snow than any snowcat they ever used so that tells me alot........its all about square inches of surface per pound....or pound per square in which ever it is.

the snow on average at my cabin get 12-15 feet so riding on top the snow is key.................I aint gonna even try to keep up with blowing it..........I figger mother nature put the stuff down there and when she wants it back she will come and get it.

I have rode the 6x6 in all types of weather and when the snow gets around 3 foot deep you are done...its to heavy to stay on top and not heavy enough to churn down thru the sonw to get to solid ground........with tires on you just end up high centered plain and simple............................I think the trax will be a winning combo

the problem with them is yea sometimes the price tag but alot of the guys around here dont worry about the price because they compete and can afford what they love (I sure cant though ) One problem with trax's is that they dont float at all, they may stay on top in the snow but they dont when your in a mud hole thats as deep as you are tall.
The 29.5" Outlaws are roughly around $600 and then here shortly the new 31" outlaws will be up for sale and who knows what the price on those will be you can find a used set of trax's for around 1,000 dollars (here atleast) if theye were that much better (in the mud) people would spend the couple extra humdred dollars and buy trax's.

You bring up a good point about the military running trax's on hummers and tanks but you are comparing apples to oranges. My 2006 Brute force 750 weighs in at 600lbs that is a big weight difference between my Brute and a tank which are two completly different machines that are geared and powered two different ways which in turn means one thing that works great on my brute may be horrible on a tank.

You may be stating a fact for where you live (NY correct?) but not in Texas and other Southern states where there is no snow only nasty slopy mud. Yes some people do run traxs here but very very few do so a search on yahoo for mud nationals and watch the mud bog videos tell me how many people are running trax's that are out there competing in the biggest event.

yea on Highlifter they occasionally have them up there from 1,000 to 1,500 used most the time they end up going on ebay. Dont know if you have tried searching there but its worth a shot and you could always join highlifter and post in the want to buy section.
