yea same goes here. if i have problems or questions this is where i come....
Agreed, I like to I guees get to know a site/forum before I hand out my cash to them. I know a few people that are on that site including my neighbor who swears by TDR but im not paying to find out I really dont like it.
I used to read there from time to time (when you could) and the info was good...I just got pissed when they changed things and you couldnt read anymore. So instead of doing what the wanted me to do (pay up) - I went elsewhere.
yeah my thoughts have been in line with you all. for the cost i can be a bombardier here and subscribe to a diesel topic magazine. i've never even seen the tdr magazine, let alone read one, so i have no idea on the info quality and i really have no interest in participating in their forum.
When I first went to TDR I couldnt even read the forum but I just went back a few minutes ago and they have changed that so that you can read. Still I dont wanna pay for a web site that I may end up hating in the long run when I could have given my money to a much better site. I think TDR should atleast have a free trial period, like join for a week or two and if you like it you can pay if not they delete your profile.
Been a TDR guy since almost the beginning. I can say that most all technical information about Dodge diesel pickups posted on the internet either came originally from or is presently on the TDR website. They don't miss much over there.
However, the TDR as a whole--and this is right from the mouth of the owners--will always be based around the quarterly magazine and 'club' and the website is only a supplement to such. When you pay the $35 per year, you get the magazine, club membership, and the website comes as a bonus.
Now, this might sound bizarre to those of us who frequent multiple tech forums, but the ownership at TDR sees their forum secondary to the rest of their organization.
The real reason for the change in non-member forum access was complaints from paying members about site speed and traffic. The changes to what non-members can see as far as content goes in the tech forums is because the paying members didn't like seeing 900 guests online using up their bandwidth and complained to the admin, threatening to leave if it didn't change.....
The "Members Only" forums are either site specific, off topic, or places where heated 'debates' occur that may sour the opinions of those who may read them in regards to site content. (It's a calculated attempt to not show the bad parts to the general public. LOL )
There are some funny rants going in the political and competition forums that IMHO are worth the money just for the amusement value.
With the advent of technical info around the internet, is it worth the $35/year for the unlimited TDR website access? Probably not. This is why there has been talk of a "TDR Lite" that will allow unlimited website access for a very nominal fee, along with all the other benefits to the club, minus the magazine. Is it worth the $35/year for the magazine and club benefits, with a bonus website? 20,000+ members seem to think so and in my opinion, yes, but that's just it...my opinion.
Besides, I get my subscription for free anyways.
Hope this helps,
Dan
