If you keep diggin into that history though you will find that those "couple" of Generals willingly went down for the good of their country and in the end they never really lost anything from their lives. The only real loss was their career and they were at the ends of them anyway. All parties concerned knew that if a president was ever forced to testify National Security Secrets could very well have been on the line. These generals had plausible deniability to fall back on for any questions that shouldn't be answered.
