looks cool . I have seen the types that mount to your wheels on a vehicle.

I have a post hole digger and this would be sweet if it works as well as they say it does

Don't take this as gospel cause I've never seen one before but I ain't buyin it. Unless you logs were completely seasoned all I see it doing at best is drilling a whole and not splitting anything and it would take years for logs of any size to be that seasoned.

They're also using pine in the pics, when's the last time you burned pine in any wood burner or fireplace. For safety sake I hope everybody say's never. All I see happening with any hardwood is replacing a lot of shear pins.

Cool idea but it looks like just another gadget.

If "you cant brake it" how do you stop it?

 

Those cork screw type splitters work pretty well actually. My dad has a smaller version that mounts to the rear hub of a truck just like your wheels do and splits very well. As long as your wood isnt super wet then they pop right apart. Anybody who knows how to cut wouldn't mess with wet wood anyways.

 

wet wood as in green or some wood is more moist than others? I split all of my wood green. then season it.
it doesnt matter for me any way. I have an outdoor wood boiler that will burn green stuff just fine. no chimney

 

I could see this more on the wheel then on a post hole digger because of the shear pin issue. I know my hole digger is rated for up to 120hp tractor and i know I'd spend more time replacing the pins then splitting.

In all honesty though it's simple to build a normal splitter that would attache to you your tractor and do away with all these problems. An "I" beam as long as you want it, a cylinder that you can buy used for cheap with a wedge welded to the end of the ram and you have most of the splitter done. A few tabs welded in place and some hoses and it's done.

 

Afew companiesmake a version like the atom splitter 2. I could see that one working better than the post hole design
