well I'm bored and thought I'd share a story...feel free to jump in with your own...

So I was driving to my old drummer's place for practise one day heading North on a 2 lane road. Speed limit is about 60km/h, and the right lane is NOT moving as it's coming up a fairly long straight steep hill. People are driving retardedly slow and it seems like there's no reason for it. So rather than wait forever barely breaking 40km/h I go in the left lane and hammer up the hill. The lane was virtually empty. So I speed up to ~70km/h and lo and behold the police are out with their radar gun. Well since the right lane is not even moving and completely backed up, he's pretty useless standing there. But then he sees me screaming up the hill...looks up from his gun and I look straight into his face as I drive past and he had this priceless angered and frustrated look because there was absolutely nothing he could do. He couldn't pull me over because traffic was backed up in the right lane, he was helpless. So I kept driving and laughed my *** off. I love it when I win.

Well a few years back when I was still riding the 2 wheeler, had to run up the Turnpike to make a pick up, the one big hill we have in Florida is on the turnpike I was coming up one side and a state trouper was coming up the other side.

I was doing 85 in a 70 as we met at the top, he sat up like he was going to do something but then just pointed his finger at me and kept going, because I was getting ready to go down hill and he knew he wasn't catching me.

The second time was good too, I was getting on the expressway in my 85 Mustang and a motorcycle cop was sitting 3 lanes over shooting the other way and see me came up the ramp about 70 in a 45 but there was so much traffic he couldn't get out till I was out of sight.

I really surprised they having started handing out tickets right and left to make up for the state and city budgets are in the dumper too, even through it has been proved many times over that speed only accounts for 2 percent of the accidents and that's usually kids, the biggest was distracted drivers and people who don't know how to drive.

Living in Florida I know about that, we have people who move here from NY city never drove a car, never wanted too are now learning at 65, yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiii.

I wasn't so lucky. Last saturday we were on our way to a birthday party on a 2 lane state route. It's all 55 except for a small 1/4 mile stretch that's 45. I didn't even see the statey sitting there. He got me doing 59 in a 45. It cost me $100. First ticket in at least 10 years.

That would have been 250 or more here, Georga is starting the same stuff now.

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety in Georgia is oh-so-proud of a new "Super Speeders" law that has now gone into effect. If you're caught doing 75 or better on a two-lane road, or 85+ on an expressway you're going to be nailed for an extra $200 in fines ... payable to the state after you've finished with the local jurisdiction.

What a crock.

I wrote a column for the December 4th edition of The Atlanta Journal Constitution on Governor Perdue's Super-Speeder law. [ Click here to read it ] In that column I cited the National Motor Vehicle Crash Causation Survey that was released in 2008 by the U.S. Department of Transportation. That study reported that speeding accounted for only 5% of "pre-crash events." There's another study from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles stating that speeding caused only 2.9% of Virginia crashes in 2007.

So why the emphasis on speeding? Because it's easy, that's why. You put a Trooper out there with a radar gun. Aim and shoot. There you go, a record of how fast a car was traveling. There is no evidence there that the driver was driving dangerously. No evidence that the driver was failing to yield the right-of-way. No evidence that the driver was following too close. No evidence that the driver was making dangerous lane changes and cutting drivers off. The only evidence you have is that the driver was exceeding some arbitrary speed limit set by government. That's an easy case to prove in court .. much more easy than proving failure to yield the right-of-way or changing lanes without using a turn signal.

The issue here is money. Notice, please, that the Governor's office is bragging quite a bit about the $23 million they expect to receive from the evil speeders.

I got word from the Governor's office yesterday that his highway safety czar wants to debate me on the subject. No debate. Let's go for a practical demonstration. We'll put the czar in my car and drive to Macon following the speed limit all the way. We'll sit there while all the other drivers jockey to get around me. We'll see cars swerving to get out of the way making an unwise lane change. We'll see tailgating, horn blowing and some interesting gestures. Then we'll drive back to Atlanta at whatever speed I choose. If the lane is open in front of me I'll just open it up. When there's traffic I'll slow down. I'll maintain a respectable distance behind the car ahead of me - get around him when I can - and pull it up to about 80 or 85 mph when the way is clear. While I'm doing this let's see how many cars have to change lanes or speed because of the way I'm driving.

Just know this Georgians. These law enforcement types who stop you to give you your super-speeder ticket are heroes when they're out there chasing criminals or dealing with the results of a traffic accident. But when they're writing you a ticket for nothing other than speeding, they're tax collectors.

Hey HERB? Georgians also need to know that since 1960 something.......Only a state trooper can stop you for going UNDER 10 mph over the speedlimit. Your doing 64 in a 55?.....ONLY a state trooper can stop you. Not your local Barney Fifes. Little known GA Law I found out about last week. ( Course anything over that and your fair game HAHA)

I only add this as a warning because you know LE is going to get this new law drilled into their heads so they're all gonna be gungho for awhile.

FYI for my Georgia Brothers and sisters.
