WOW!!! Build Your Own 5th Wheel
#14
Its not a big deal if you have a little bit of skill in the building trades. There would be a steep learning curve for the average joe but quite doable.
I wouldn't want to do it but I could do some parts of it...the electrical and exterior fiberglass work would kick my *** but the framing and interior would be a piece of cake.

Materials woudnt be hard to come by, within 50 miles we have 2 surplus places that are RV related, they have Im guessing 20-30 bare trailers just like he started with, doors windows, roofing material, axels, you name it they have it all RV/TT related! its pretty crazy but the parts are out there. no joke this guy is either a brain child or its a kit but I think it can be done.

I'm sure it could be done, I just question if one man would have all that expertise unless it was a prefab kit. Even if you could find all the salvage parts, trying to match up all the right parts to fit and work with each other would be a nightmare from scratch.
If he did build this all himself from scratch, he is wastin some serious talent doin it in his driveway.

Thanks Guys
I'm the guy who built the fifth wheel. Just to answer the ringing question...
This was no kit, I built it from nothing, engineering, building, the whole enchilada... I am a IT Director at a large transportation company, I have never worked in the RV biz, nor do I know anyone who does. I just got a harebrained idea around the campfire, and did it. I bought every last piece of it a RV surplus building material stores, one in Hudson, MI one in Sturgis MI, and one in Elkhart, IN. I consider myself a average Joe.
