RANT escalade vs dump truck
Warning this is a rant biased off ignorance.
A few hours into my day I was out loading firewood into dump trucks with a front end loader. It was the last of the pile so the driver help me chain up the loader on my trailer. He was headed across town and I was headed back to the shop both in the same direction.
It was light traffic and the dump truck was in the left lane for a turn about a mile down the road. An escalade didn’t stop at the maiden and tried to drive right under both of the drop axles and it didn’t work. I was a way back so I saw it form the point the escalade was part way under the dump truck till it came to rest on it’s side.
The dump truck ended off hitting a second car but thank got that it was just a big dent and they kept it under control. A good size chunk of the bed ended up on top of the escalade but luckily only a tinny chunk of it ended up on the passenger compartment.
The driver of the car ended up with wet pants syndrome. My driver ended up with 7 stitches on his left arm and I swear he sharted but would not admit to it; his copilot (golden lab) has some soreness from hanging in her harness but the vet gave her a clean bill of heath. The driver of the escalade a case of “fist in month” and some other air bag related injuries; both of the kids in the back seat that were not wearing seat belts got tossed around, but no major injuries. Luckily it sounds like a bunch of bruised egos and everything else should heal in the next few weeks.
The fun part came to cleaning up the fire wood that got slung out of the dump truck. The fire department, tow company, and I spent 45 minutes getting the wood out of the road and the grass. The poor dump truck ended up on a lowboy with both drive axles in bed. They weren’t able to straighten out the front end to tow it.
I know it only takes a second for an accident to happen, but some days I just have to wonder “what the <u>] were you thinking you ignorant son of a %dog” .
Thanks for letting me get this out now hopefully I’ll feel better.

You would not believe how many people fly by me when I’m doing the speed limit hauling something and I turn out passing them down the road a bit because they got stuck in traffic.
If you drive 30 miles the difference between going 55 and 60 mph is less than a minute.
I’m going to print out that pic and stick it on the escalade in a few hours when I go clean out the dump truck.

Jessy it's good to rant, makes me feel better too when my day goes sour. It's good to hear everyone's okay, but seriously, those kids should have been strapped in...
How fast do you figure the Escalade was going @ impact? Sounds like it must have been significant if it caused damage to the drive axles on the dump truck.
@ Reiser, you've got a picture for just about damn near everything it seems...

The cop says the dump truck was going between 50 and 60 (speed limit 55) and the escalade was going about 25 to 35. The cop charged him for 7 things but we will see what he gets in court.
From looking at it the escalade just missed the battery box and landed right on the drop axles. The back drop axle and the escalade got mixed up in the drive axles. The tow truck drives told me that with the breaks locked and getting that much jammed in the drive axle is more than what’s needed to twist everything. They cut part of it off so they could load it.
I was going to get pics of it when I went to clean it out but it was sitting on the low boy in a bay. I asked if I could snap some pics and he says they don’t like pics taken inside there building. My insurance totaled it there shipping it off Friday morning.
I talked to my insurance adjuster and she says there’s; 2 set of stitches, broken arm, broken teeth, slight concussion, totaled dump truck, totaled escalade, and the dented car filed a clam but haven’t submitted paperwork yet.
I see lots of phone calls with lawyers and me sitting in court for a day or two.
