When I had an ACOG I wanted 1x.
When I had an EoTech I wanted magnification. So I bought a magnifier with a Larue flip-to-side mount... Way too much crap on the top of the rifle.,,
Since I don't need an $1,800 Elcan Specter and am not a huge fan of the Leupold CQ/T....I bought the Trijicon TR24.....TR24G actually. Sort of the best of both worlds....decent eye relief, illumination, doesn't need batteries, has magnification, decent durability, and a decent price for a "tactical" (I'm a wanna-be operator) optic.....
....went with a Larue QD mount, highly recommended whatever optic you go with.

I got my free float forearm from midwest industries .. so far I really like it .. reasonable price too
I went with the t-series
Midwest Industries:
Yankee Hill Machine is also pretty good on quality and price.
