Default How many people with a Dodge Ram have lost their hood while driving?

As the title states.

This happened to me the first time back in 05. Just going down the highway and bam hood hit the windscreen. Busted it all to pieces, broken hinges, and a smashed hood. The recall for the hood latch was done long ago. After having to spend quite a few dollars to replace all those parts she is back together. Well fast forward to tonight. Yesterday I finished installing a new injection pump, Airdog 150, and new injectors. Took it out for a spin last night all seems well. Took it for a few more spins today no issue everything is going great. Went to run over to a friends house and as I am going 75 down the highway BAM! The hood comes up AGAIN! Cant see crap slowly slow down and pull over. Get out of the truck and climb up on the front to pry the hood off the roof and windscreen. Grab a strap out of the box and strap my new pretzel down and continue on my way. Hinges are ruined so is the hood. The latches are all bent up. But the windscreen is fine. At least I do not have to replace that again. So I am hoping there is a truck in the yard I can rob the hinges, hood, grill, and latches off of next weekend. As last time I bought new parts and hot damn you would think Dodge made their hinges out of gold or something for the cash they want. So I unbolted the hinges and hood at my friends house and strapped it down to the bed and went home.

Has anyone else had this happen or does my truck just want to be hood less and I am just to dumb to see it?

There was a recall on the secondary hood latch system some years back. Don't know what all years it covered but my 99 was on the list and done.

not to be a smart ***, but are you sure you are closing your hood right?
(everyone was thinking it, I just said it)

But really, is anything sheared or snapped on the hood latches? Did your hood work normally up to that point? Have you checked the cable linkage for the hood to see if there is anything that might have pulled it by accident?

I was driving with JUST the secondary latch for a little bit going highway speeds any it didnt let up. Not sure how it was different on a '98.5 than a '01 though.

Yes the hood was closed. I drove it around all day before it happened. The main latch is bent now. Umm the safety latch is now somewhere on the highway.
it was ripped off I assume. Well it is off to the yard this weekend.
