Default Noobie question

Hey Guys, I'm looking to buy an 05-06 2500 diesel truck, I'm just not sure what I should go for. What I'm trying to ask is what problems should I expect to see in Dodge, Chevy, and a Ford?

thanks,

Sebastian

FWIW , I am drunk , but , fords seem to have a fair amount of issues, JMO, but every company seems to have their own little issues , nothing is perfect, I am a cummins die hard, if it wasn't for the IFS in the chev , it would be a hard choice between a cummins and a Dmax for me.

I hate to say but you kinda opened a can of worms with this question. All the trucks have some issues personally the perfect truck is which ever one you can drive and enjoy. I have personally owned all 3 and I am a fan of all 3. I do know 05 6.0s had some issues but it seems that these days you either big a winner or a loser you can go to a dealer and pick out of a line of trucks and I bet for every few that run great there will be a few that have probs or dont run at all thank you Henry Ford and assembly line mass production.

CUMMINS!!!!! bow ties are for little boys and Ford did you a favor and circled the problem

I am also a die hard, no other truck is really a truck kinda guy. I have been officially brain washed
My opinion is VERY biased

well, i have not really had any problems, that wern't my fault, with my cummins. i drive a chevy 2500 gasser for work, and i can't stand it. comfortable ride but....I CAN'T STAND THE AUTOMATIC!!! and that is really why i would prolly never buy a chevy. i am not real crazy with the way the ford has it self set up. i never liked the way they rode and i really couldn't stand the dumb turn signal cancel out. its just little things here and there, but they make the difference when you are wanting to get a couple hundered miles outa of it. there are some days i get pissed at my dodge but i have found that i have been happiest with it. but all i can say is you gotta get one of the three.

I'll jump in here. It depends A LOT on what you intend to do with the truck. Just driving around back and forth to work etc., probably any of 'em will do, pick the one most comfortable to you, but you might be better off with a 1/2 ton gasser. Much better ride.
Now if you're looking to tow, Cummins all the way. Get the standard trans, it will hold up better than the auto.
The later Duramax's seem to be a very good motor.
Now, if you have unlimited cash, the sometimes categorized "best truck" is a Cummins powered Ford truck with an Allison trans. But, you'll have to build it yourself.

Yep, the Ford will give you the "Fully Loaded" that is really fully loaded and the cummins will give you the power you need and the allison wont break.
