i have a piece oh Sh** 96 ranger 4x4 with a V-6 4.0. . . the trans is shot, its a 5 speed manual. i cant find one to buy and im not gonna fork over the cash to get it rebuilt. any help Please!?!?! as soon as its fixed im sellin it for a cummins or powerstroke. would love a duramax but way to far out of my price range.

 

900 bucks for a 4.0 T-5......i know the feeling, i lost 5th, then 3rd, then 1st, then the shifter broke......

 

yeah my trans got stuck in 4th. and it was "found on road dead" and then we got it fixed, then 4th disappered(its like a neutral) and 3rd is blocked off you cant even put it in gear.damn fords

 

a friend of mine that's by no means mechanically inclined had a 5 speed ranger, took the trans out himself and took it into a shop in the trunk of his mom's car, got a few things fixed for a couple hundred. what's your plan if you're not willing to fix yours or buy a replacement?

I think you'd more than make your money back if you spend a few hundred fixing it...

 

well its out already at a trans shop and thats their estimate on a reuilding the whole thing. if i dont buy a new one or get it rebuilt im gonna search everywhere for a used one or go to a junkyard in hopes of finding a good one. but if i cant then ill have to get it rebuilt

 

oh, how much do they want to rebuild it? and where are you at, have many junk yards around your area?

 

almost all junkyards are going to charge the same......800-1000 for a good used 4.0 T-5 for a ranger......

 

well im in ohio we got a chain of junk yards called pull-a-part. and i could get a used trans for 45 bucks. but its not needed anymore cause the trans shop got a 4 banger trans with a cracked husing and the guts were good so they swaped the internal parts into mine and the trans is home now but my buddy was to hng over to help me get it back in

 

hahaha, buy him some pedialyte and excedrin next time, he'll be back to 100% in an hour. you lucked out big time with the shop getting the guts of another trans, that's awesome!

 

yeah saved me bout 100 to 300 bucks. now im waitin for my parents to pay me back and im buyin a 98 12 valve cummins!!!and the first upgrade will be stacks and a pyro guage so i can play with the pump some and get er smokin!!
