That's Sweet! Got my shotgun just leaning against my dresser next to my bed in arms reach.

My kid was field strippin pistols like they were puzzles when he was a few years old. I figured I wasn't even gonna try to hide all the guns and ammo he may find around the house by accident so I didn't even try. I made sure that he knew enough about them that he wouldn't have an accident when he found em.

I'm with Dan here. I grew up in a house full of huntin guns and had free access to grab the shotgun and go wander around the pasture from somewhere around 7 or 8 years old and I never shot myself or anybody else. To this day I am a gun safety fanatic.

Exactly. Kids that grow up around guns and use them will be much safer. They see what damage a gun can do and know not to play around with them.

what i was meaning, i have a 3 and 4 year old. i do have a gun in the house in plain sight, but out of there reach. but having a shotgun in that spot with kids getting in your bed, HELL no that aint gun safety.

I'm with Ed on that one... At that age, they can look all they want, but they aren't ready to touch them without em sittin on daddy's lap. Hang it up on a wall where they can't reach it and its fine, but down so low isn't exactly a good idea. Now if they kids were 8 or 10, whole different story.

Wouldn't argue with that at all, but at that age mom and dads bedroom was off limits unless I was invited in.

That what i meant by "kids". My dads shotgun was accessible by me once i knew where it was. I didn't find that out till i was at least 6-7yrs old. And even then i knew not to dare touch it without him around.

My ex's friend would stay here alot on the weekends with her 2yr old daughter. She wanted to touch EVERYTHING!! The minute she walked over to my .22 casually leaning by the front door that was it. All my guns and knives were hidden and out of her reach even if she could find them.

You just can't take a chance with a child. Of course proper gun safety will be taught to my son or daughter (when i have one) but, they won't be able to get to daddy's guns until i know they're ready.

Yep. Mine are all at least at shoulder height if they have rounds in them. If they are locked up with the chamber open they can just sit on the gun rack thats just off the floor, otherwise, up up and away!
