Default Who has a foam roof?

My roof has foam on it. Some kind of spray-on stuff, I think, over the shingles.

I had to paint it yesterday.

Why do I have foam on my roof? Who thought of this idea? Does it work?

Do YOU have foam on your roof?

The R value of a foam roof vs a steel or shingle roof is a lot greater. They are mainly used commercially though.

Be thankful, that stuff saves you a bundle on cooling costs. Not just that, but it lasts a long, long time... Make sure you keep it painted, otherwise it'll break down thanks to that big round thing in the sky and its UV rays...

I am sure in arizona you'll see the benefit of the insulation value.

I know it isn't what you have, but I just had a guy come over to give an estimate for a spray on foam that goes under the roof in the attic. Spray Foam Insulation | Foam It

Ah yes, Hot Blown Insulation, about the best you can spray... We use cold blown cellulose a lot here in NY. Blow it into attics and it does an awesome job.

It isn't common here except in steel buildings... we sweat in uninsulated steel building, but you sometimes can't tell the air conditioning isn't on in buildings that are insulated with this method.

My house has a low pitch roof ... Does $2/sf of floor space sound like a reasonable going rate for the job?

For cold blown it's high... For hot blown its low (at least for around here). Keep in mind, its probably more common around you than it is me, so its price has probably come down.

It also depends on the thickness being sprayed and density of the foam
