to all you smoke happy drivers
I saw something today that kind of made me think a lil truck passed me with a mobile diesel smoke test sticker in the back window so because of this I decided that I should say some stuff. I know some of these links are older I figured at the rate that diesel popularity is growing as well as this site I figured informing some people newer to diesels some of the issues we are fighting.
Rolling Smokestacks - Strong regulations are needed to clean up diesel tracks and buses
A Smoking Gun - Environmental Defense Fund
I know I may be smashing on the fun of rolling some coal throughout the neighborhood but just remember be careful of who you let have it because you never know who they are thank you for listening and looking at the links hope this helps some people understand what we have to put up with to enjoy what we have.
P.S. I am not an anti-smoke guy it has its time and place just don't think excessive amounts is needed on the road if you wanna smoke like a train do it on the track and not into the windows of fellow drivers vehicles
/Rant off/

yep, I love to roll coal now and then too; but in the interest of preserving our hobby we REALLY need to watch it. I know of quite a few county employees (pretty high up) and officers that are really offended when they see even a tiny puff of soot...not that I think it's right but we need to be a lot more careful than most of us have been; especially now when the regulations seem to be aimed at who can afford to pay fines and are crafted to appease the loudest public outcry.

Its not where it actually ends up. Its the perception of what its doing. The fact that our smoke looks bad is enough. so your attitude and future clamed actions are the cause of our sport being watched. To the greenies those fart pipe hondas are gold compared to our trucks.

This is honestly the attitude that is getting DPFs put on diesels. We as motorsport fans and enthusiasts need to look at the perception that normal people that dont drive diesels or love them as much as us have. They see the smoke bellowing from our trucks(which i wont lie i love) and its gross, smells gross, and inpairs their vision. It doesn't matter what we know about our emmisions, its the uneducated drivers and vehicle owners that have their voice heard whern it comes to diesels. The honest thing is, smoke needs to get handled better and needs to be managed better by the diesel enthusiast behind the wheel of his or her vehicle. This is for the on the road diesel vehicle, im not talking about the seld trucks or drag vehicles out there. One day the smoke on the tracks will need to be managed for safety reasons(drag racing.) I know alot of people dont want to be forced into this, so we need to as a whole diesel world start monitoring ourselves instead of letting the EPA and as some call them, tree huggers, say what we can do with our sport. We are under the microscope of more than just the EPA. We have an opportunity rto do something before we are forced to do something. My opinion is we need to monitor ourselves and look outside of the box, smoke can be fun but it can also be the death of the sport i love, lets not shoot ourselves in the foot.
