Default taxes wtf?

i'm trying to figured this out maybe some one knows?

being self employed for so long i made a mistake on mine.
i remember asking my boss when i was hired last winter about how many independents i should put down.he says well your married right. i said yes..
he says ok one for you and one for your wife so put down 2. stupidly i did.
my wife claimed zero.
now we owe about $500 instead of getting anything back.. ok my fault lesson learned.

my sister in law gets a phone call today while she was over.
and she's getting about $6000 back !!! WTF. granted she's a singe mom, rents but the state pays for the days care. cuz the jack *** never pay child support. i don't hold it against her. she does good for a single mom. but 6 GRAND!
how do you get more back then you pay in?

when i worked for a lumber yard almost 10 years ago i was making just over 30g a year and never got over $1000

can some one justify how some one gets 6g back?

I got 6k back last year only making 50k. I'm single, house writeoff and I write off miles and my work supplies ei: workboots, gradechecking gear...items exclusive to my job. There are ways to get money back, just need to see a CPA.

I got $7200 back last year. you need more tax deductions if you are self employed. the key to filling out the w2 (if not self employed) is to claim ZERO (if you can afford it). that way they take out more taxes thru the year and you get more back at the end. if you are self employed, you need to start claiming your truck, house, meals, fuel, mileage, parts (even bombs), tires, maintenance, hotels ect... keep them filed by month.

i'm not self employed any more.
funny i got more back when i was. as a lobstermen we was able to write alot off. but there was alot my tax man wouldn't write off he called it insurance.
in case the govt came back on me.

my sister in law now only gets 10.50 and hour she just got a raise like .50 i think. and now she's full time as of ummm i think last month.
i have my doubts she cleared $25,000 she hasn't been at the job for a year. i think she collected unemployment alot of last winter

working for some one there isn't really much i can right off right? unless i'm mistaken?
i dunno never did my own taxes. a friend of mine works for H&R block just figured it was safer to have him do it considering if you get audited they cover you. or they advertise they will

Depends on what you do for work for the write offs. I was able to write off my miles cause I drove my truck on the job as long as you don't get compensation from the employer. I got fuel but there was no trace of the compensation for the IRS to find. My gradechecking gear and steel toe boots are exclusive for my job so that's a write off. My house interest is a write off. I also leave some "insurance" on the write offs in case of an audit.

I guess the kids are a write off.......6k sounds like a lot. Yes, you can write off your tools. You use them to make the money they tax you on. Your employer doesn't compensate you either right? Now, if you drive to the office then to the job or from job to job....those miles are a write off too.

Could be worse .. my roommate's dad farms and works for a feed mill. Made a killing off crops this year and now the IRS wants $11,000. How would you like to write that check?
