I might have to look at them then.

Just got back from the range. From the bench without a rest (after I sighted the scope in) I shot a 5 round group within 1.5" from 125 yards, from 50 I was in 1" groups... Not bad for no rest and being as gusty as it is right now. All these were shot with 17gr Accutip (polymer tipped) rounds at 2550 fps.

Filled up a couple Mountain Dew 20oz. bottle with water, the 17gr Accutip round tore it up pretty good, but the 20gr dimple tip blew the thing apart! I was amazed how big of a difference there really was. I know what I'll be hunting Coyote with. Although I did notice the 20gr dropped about 3/8" more or so from 125yds. I don't think I'd have trouble dropping anything from 150yds.

All this talk about rimfires, now I want a 22 mag, I know it's not equal to the 17HMR, but at least I can afford the ammo ??

I've done alot with the .17 HMR. Different guns and bullet weights. I have a Savage with the bull barrel, my son has a Savage with the sporter barrel. Both guns have the accu-trigger. We tried different rounds by grains and manufacturers. The bull barrel really likes the Hornady 20 gr. hollow points, while the sporter likes the Hornady 17 gr. V-max. Tried Remington, Federal, and Winchester, but none of them seemed to perform as well. While my son is young and not as experienced, he still shoots 1 1/2" groups at 100 yds. I consistently shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yds. These guns are very accurate and capable of shots 200 yards plus with the right setup. Both guns are topped with 4-16X40 target scopes. I suggest trying different bullets and going with what shoots best in your gun. Somes guns just don't like some ammo. Then...Practice, Practice, Practice!

we have a few 17s and on the bipod we where hitin priare dogs runin at 200 yards they are sweet lil guns i have never heard of them tumblin but we have the sweet 17 scope. sight it in at like 100 150 then you just adjust the scope to away out there but thats for the 17 grain bullet not the heavier one.

Once the wind picks up the little 17 or 20 grain bullets are going nowhere near the target anyway... At 100 yards a stiff wind will push you a foot off target, literally. The 17 Fireball has the same problem, just at longer distances (thing shoots at over 4500FPS).

I love the gun, and its a hoot to take to the range, or for killing squirrels, golphers, rabbits, etc... But a bad weather gun it is not!

There was a guy at our local range with a .17 rem fireball and he shot a pencil standing straight up at 150yards...I wouldnt have believed it if I wasnt there...I am currently looking for another rimfire but I have to play with my new Savage Model 12BVSS right now

At 100yds I could do it with a 17HMR if the wind was dead... I could do it at 300 yds with my 308 no problem.
