anyone on here have A.D.D or A.D.H.D.?

I have had sleep problems ever since I can remember. I never feel rested when I wake up. My dreams are very real feeling and somethime wake me up and I think they really happened. I can sit and stare at the TV for 4 hours and feel rested.
I dont listen very well and at times dont hear a single thing the person talking to me said. I stare at the computer at work for 5-15minutes at a time lost in thought and dont realize it. When I am reading I will read 2-3 pages in a book often time rereading sentenc es 2-3 times because I couldnt tell you what I just read. then after the 2 pages of reading I still cant tell you. If something that I am doing is stimulating enough I get tired and lose focus.
I am having a problem remembering peoples names, events, and other things. My wife will ask me to get something and while getting it the phone will ring and I'll answer it and forget what she asked for and wind up not getting it. I used to be pretty good with math and could do a lot of it in my head, now I have a hard time doing basic math in my head and have to write it down. I feel stupid.
I also sometimes avoid talking to people sometimes because I dont feel like listening to them or answering their questions, especially in person. I just dont feel like it dealing with conversation.
My wife says I am very selfish, but really My mind has no room to keep track of things other than what I do. Its like I have a hard enough time trying to keep my own self on track.
I get nasty real quick sometimes and snap. then I am over it in 10 minutes and feel bad.
No patience.

I went and saw someone last year but she was still working on her license and wasnt much help. She just kept on having me try all of these drugs and such. It seemed like I evaluated myself and she did nothing but give me drugs. Nothing helped and I finally asked her if there was anything I could do besides drugs and she got offended. the I asked her what her evaluation was and she could tell me what I had exactly or what tests would reveal what I had. So I stopped seeing her.

some days are better than others on all of the above.
anyone have anything like this? am I fuct up? I feel bad for my kids cause they see it and sometimes are victims of it.

DIESELDENT 10-22-2008 11:18 AM

sounds like A.D.H.D. i was told i had it when i was a kid. not so much the sleep problem but i do all the other things. my GF will tell me someting and ask me what she said like a minute later and i cant remember.

sunsetsky 10-22-2008 11:19 AM

:humm: That's alot to deal with. The impatience /irritability can be related to not sleeping well. It sounds all interrelated. I have heard from a couple people that nutritional therapy is helpful. Like "Alternative Health Concepts". It might be worth checking into alternative concepts, they can do testing for deficiencies that might be making it worse, and put you on a nutrition based program to help get things closer to right.
Just an idea.

xzaq103 10-22-2008 11:39 AM

I had A.D.D as a kid but they said i grew out of it.... I forget a lot of stuff I wonder if I still have it :humm:

wildbill 10-22-2008 11:48 AM

I'll go to write something down, like a phone number or card number. I have to re-read it 3 times cause I either write down a wrong number or forget a number or two. Or I take off to the store and forget what I went there for.

GRI 10-22-2008 11:52 AM

My famous one is forgetting my wallet when I get sent to the store. I'll get all the way there and have to go back. Before I even get to the house door my wifes arm is out of it with my wallet.

LOGANSTANFORTH 10-22-2008 11:52 AM

dude its stress and lack of sleep.....ive had the same thing for a few years but not very bad....now over here with the stress i got to deal with it has made it ALOT worse.....

or your just suffering from CRS......

i started keeping extra money in the truck for that same reason

GRI 10-22-2008 12:05 PM

I have tried taking straight B-12 and tri vitamins and it didnt do anything. I changed my diet and took vitamins, still no change. I tried one of the new sleeping pills that didnt put you straight out like the old ones and still felt tired as hell in the morning.
I also tried a herbal ADD medication and that didnt do anything.

wildbill 10-22-2008 12:17 PM

Like Logan mentioned, it's likely stress related.

GRI 10-22-2008 12:22 PM

no, I have always had it. its just progressively gotten worse through the years as responsibilities grew. now its just getting way out of hand.

I have been tested for diabetes, sleeping disorders, limes disease ect.

Diesel-N-Dust 10-22-2008 12:25 PM

I review repair orders from our dealers and bill them to our large customers. Nothing very strenuous or stressful

Don't you hate it when you read through a thread and then forget what it's about in the first place.... Oh look, something shiny:playing:

Johnny Cetane 10-22-2008 01:30 PM

You described me too a "T". I'm dealing with all of that. Hell I don't even watch a youtube vid if it's more than 3 minutes long, I can watch a DVD and not remember 75% of it. I think/daydream all the time no matter what I'm doing. I don't have the patience of more than about 30 seconds to deal with something that is being contrary before getting pissy and snapping. Like you, I wasn't always this way either. I don't know/think it's ADD/ADHD unless it can start in your late 20's. I always thought most people got rid of it by their mid-20's but I could be wrong.

I don't know what it is. Never really asked anyone though. Guess I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.:c:

GRI 10-22-2008 01:42 PM

from what i have read. most people dont get diagnosed with ADD/ADHD until the age of 28-32

Johnny Cetane 10-22-2008 01:47 PM

Maybe. I really don't know.

The biggest problem is that everyone just wants to toss pills at you. No one really wants to fix things.

I have pretty high anxiety too. I'm about as mellow as a heart attack if I have to deal with more than like 2 things. There has to be some kind of connection.

MotorOilMcCall 10-22-2008 03:52 PM

GRI, have you ever been tested for Manic Depression? My fraternity brother was a few years ago and ever since he's been on lithium he's a whole new guy.

He was having trouble paying attention, working stuff out in his head like he used to, staying awake during the day, just basic little stuff he used to be able to do.

Just a thought man. I hate going to doctors, but if it were me I'd wanna know if something indeed was wrong, and I never believed in "Depression", but seeing my buddy change made me think twice about it.

sirthomas 10-22-2008 04:19 PM

sounds really familiar, mine has really gotten bad the last few years. I went to make an appointment for a oil change on my car, got 2 steps and couldn't remember when it was. after 2 more tries I had to wright it down. I was tired during the day also and was diagnosed with sleep apnea, the cpap machine has helped but there still is something wrong.

GRI 10-22-2008 05:06 PM

yeah like I said I went through 2 sleep studies and they didnt find anything. apnea, narcolepsy, restless leg sydrom ect. nothing.

yeah I am going to get checked out. I just cant do it anymore. But this time I am going to go through a referral process as the last ttime I went through a refferral process but the doctor I wanteddidnt have room so he recomended his wife who was just starting and she was worthless. she didnt say hardly anything, I talked mostly and she just prescribed drugs. I was just fed up and quit going to her.

A cousin of mine was diagnosed with ADHD at age 7. She has been on medication for 26 years.

She started drinking a new juice on the market 2 oz. in the morning and 2 oz. in the evening and she is now medication free. No kidding. It worked for her within 3 weeks. :U: After two months the doc's took her off the meds.

scottsjeeprolet 10-22-2008 05:56 PM

If they had had Ritalin when i was a kid i might be an engineer. I can't pay attention, tough to focus. Pretty much the same as everything as said above.
My son was diagnosed with ADD and has been on Ritalin since elementary, it's night and day with him. Went from failing grades to honor roll.

GRI 10-23-2008 08:52 AM

I was on a couple of ridalin type things and it didnt do much for me except make me like a zombie, which I didnt like at all.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Nitelord, could you get the info on that drink stuff?

LOGANSTANFORTH 10-23-2008 12:24 PM

i know mine gets worse when i got alot of stuff to think about.......like this week ill list the stuff......

mom getting hysterectomy....
someone stealing my ballistic helmet.....
good friend rediagnosed with cancer.....
moving to a different base.....
getting all my stuff ready to move......
not being able to leave on time cause of the helmet.....
rescheduling for my convoy.....
trying to get a truck fixed that i tore apart a month ago and cant remember where stuff is.....
hell i cant remember names of truck parts most of the time........

Lucas Amick 10-23-2008 01:32 PM

hey gri i think we have some what of the same problem. Like when ever i'm working i'll be going to get something from our parts room and someone will ask for a little help moving something. And just like that i'll forget what i was doing in the first place. Idk wtf this stuff is but it's not fun. I feel your pain.

bigdaddydiesel 10-23-2008 02:21 PM

I have to say that the main reason most Doctors give medication like they do is because they receive kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies, like was stated earlier, I think it comes down to more than just vitamins, you are better off to get hooked up with a true nutritionist that deals with organically grown foods, they are A LOT healthier than the other stuff sold in the stores, and the vitamins never truly get absorbed into your system fully because they are granular in composition for the most part. If you really want it to get better then I suggest finding a nutritionist who can set a diet plan for you. And the reason I buy Organic is because I use to drive Coast to Coast and I would haul produce from southern California back to the east coast and I have seen how they grow that stuff, they can grow a field of say lettuce in about 3 weeks with all of the growth hormones and additives they use and somewhere along the way the nutritional value as well as the flavor is lost!!! I grew my own Tomatoes this year among other things and even the difference in the taste is amazing!!!

xzaq103 10-23-2008 03:38 PM

Could this be related to Diesel smoke? lol

Big_Johnson 10-29-2008 12:01 AM

i know exactly what you are going through. i deal with it every day. i snap at people for no reason what so ever or just get mad at them and later i feel bad about it but i'm so stubborn i dont let it go. i either sleep 4-6 hours a night or 11-13... and will be tired whenever i wake up. soemtimes i'll stay up 2 or 3 days straight and start to hallucinate(sp). i actually just forgot i was typing this and started watching tv. 10-15 minutes later i look back down and remember this. lol. but yeah i do that all the time. the only difference is that i can sit and watch tv or play video games for hours. but i constantly forget things that i need to do. i dont even carry a wallet anymore. it stays in my truck all the time. money goes from pants pocket to pants pocket. i lose thigns all the time. i locked my keys in my old truck 3 times in one week one time...
but yeah i was diagnosed with A.D.D and i am 19. you can be diagnosed with adult ADD or ADHD. i am taking a psychology class right now just to learn about some of this stuff. ADD is actually from ADHD. ADHD=attention deficit hyperactive disorder, take out the "H" and you have ADD. some people can have both which means they are fidgity(sp) and can't pay attention very well and all those other awesome symptoms. i have a terrible memory. i can't remember much of anything from my childhood, and sometimes have trouble remembering what i did a week ago or even yesterday... right now i'm on some drugs and i forget to take them alot of times. it's alot harder to live with than people think and i feel for ya. i've actually just ended 3 friendships with bad attitude. i mean they had alot to do with it. but i probably could have taken a different approach with what i did/said. i'm not really sure what if anything i can say to help you out. i mean memory wise idk i just remember the most random things and forget important things all the time. getting frustrated or angry. it's just something to work on. and idk if there is any other way besides medication to fix it. maybe leave notes arond the house as reminders... idk. it's definately not a fun problem to have. i'm learning about it as i go and i actually go to a therapist and i'm learning stuff in my class. if you have any questions or just want to vent you can pm me. i know that for me talking to a neutral party or someone random that is willing to listen helps me vent, blow off steam, and get things off my chest. good luck to you though and hopefully things will get better.

Welcome to the nut house

The more you think you're nuts, the more sane you are.
How are your social skills? Do you feel comfortable talking to people in person? Is your tolerence level toward other people declining? Do you prefer to work with other people or alone?

woodruff69 10-29-2008 01:16 AM

i have both and i love it lol. i can multitask like crazy

My social skills are fine but I am a terrible listener. Someone will be talking to me and I'llbe shaking my head in acknowledgment but I am really thinking about the crap I have on my list to do or where I am going to hunt on the weekend.
Depending on the situation. I feel more comfortable not talking in person and if possible I try not to talk on the phone, email is easier for me. Its weird, I can be taking a class or be in a room full of people and can blirt out all of the funny stuff I want and yell out things but if someone turns it around and puts me in the spotlight when its not on my own terms it definitly makes me uncomfortable
Yes my tolerance is declining, especially with my kids and wife.

I mostly prefer to work alone

i can't remember much of anything from my childhood, and sometimes have trouble remembering what i did a week ago or even yesterday

yup thats me

i can sit and watch tv or play video games for hours
Totally, I almost feel rested after watching an hour or so of uninterupted tv

GRI 11-05-2008 11:18 PM

well I went to my regular doctor today for a referral.

she suggested I try and see this guy. he is supposedly the ADD/ADHD Guru and he is 30 miles from me!

theADHDdoc.com - Your guide to medications and complementary and alternative treatments for ADD & ADHD.

his site s cool and has lots of good info. So I called to see if my insurance would cover it and they dont do Blue cross directly but I'd have to pay upfront and my insurance would pay me back.
So I called my insurer to see how it worked. This doctor isnt in my insurers network so I would have to pay a $250 deductible then they would cover 70% of the rest. :booo:
Definitely cant afford that. frigin sucks as many of the shrinks dont specialize in ADD/ADHD and I would run into the same BS as before vsit= new med, visit=different med ect
without having the proper tools to diagnose.
this guy has machine that he hooks up to your head that reads brain activity and can diagnose it on the first visit.
this sucks
So I called my doctor again a gave her the bad news. She is going to make some phone calls and get back with me but spoke to a rep at that guys office and she gave him my 30 question ADD/ADHD test and my history and he said that most of his patients answer 15-18 questions positive that would suggest ADD/ADHD. I answered 28 positive.he said very few answer that many positive. But he said that one drug would would give immediate results and would sort of cut to the chase and diagnose it. A low dosage of concerta would show an immediate improvement, if it did than I should see someone to get properly diagnosed.
under my best judgment I decided to give it a shot. all I can say is HOLY COW!
it was like I drank 5 energy drinks. I took it at 2 and by 3 I was alert and focused. when I got home the kids were a terror and that would have put me in my annoyed, depressed, asshole mood. But I didnt snap at them I handled the situations and the kids listened and reacted better by me not being an asshole. My impulse to get mad wasnt there and I actually had a few good conversations with my wife and kids instead of just being there and kind of keeping to my self
The only side effects are 1. It makes you feel a little weird (wired). 2. I am up right now lol

hopefully this is the answer. I still want to see that guy or someone else with add/adhd experience as counseling and meds should be done together. :U:

DB Admin 11-06-2008 05:11 AM
