Gale Banks in 4WOR
Read this elsewhere, thought i'd post it here and see what is said:
Im sure there are alot of vendors and tuners that wont like to hear this one either
this is in the june 07 issue of petersens 4wor
just an excerpt about the 07 diesels and tuning. Banks states that the 07 diesels have a new suite of emissions solutions that complicate the aftermarket enhancement of these powertrains. No longer will the "Smoke Boys" be able to sell their "gross polluting" products. Its going to take some smarts to design products that do not violate these emissions systems yet improve performance. Of course the "smoke boys" will try, and may even cheat. But i predict only those with the technical and engineering knowledge will survive. Old school hacking and and overfueling was stupid in the past and idiotic in the future. As for Banks , this is a market we will produce products for....

Bottom line for me is I had considered his products in the past - hard parts only - but I will not give the man a penny now. To blatantly call all of your competitors in the industry "stupid" and "idiotic" draws the line for me. Let's see Mr Girl's name build a 1500+ pulling truck that doesn't billow all the way down the track.....ain't happening

We have used Banks gear since the early 80's when nobody else was in the game...there are still a ton of people that use and trust Banks as a proven and reliable product. I also like the fact that he has always stayed true to his beliefs that if you are producing gobs of smoke you are just puking out unburt fuel which in essence mean you have built something in your system incorrectly...Too large a turbo, not enough air, too much fuel.....
A truly effecient engine will produce little to no smoke...can the HUGE hp numbers be produced in this manner, usually not, but remember not everybody builds their trucks for the track or sled pulling.
Another note is the evironmental and social impacts...If you arent worried about the evironment yet...give yer head a shake...Diesel can be and will be a major part of where the world looks as we need to build more efficient vehicles in the future...Darn hard to convert the masses when they associate diesel vehicles with a loud truck puking gobs of coal out the dual stacks....
We as diesel enthusiasts need to be consious of the image we portray to the rest of the granola crowd if we are ever going to convince the world that this is the direction to go in the future...
With all that said, I still would not have bashed the entire industry, that was wrong, but I wont hold that one article againt the many years of successful product development that has come from Banks...

Banks takes a ton of heat because their packages are very expensive, but they do try to cover all the bases, with the kits, air, power, intercooler, intake, and exhaust. The common idea is that you can save money by buying these parts individually from different vendors, and you can save money this way, but each part is not neccessarily matched to the other parts....
And yes Banks stuff will produce some smoke...most any diesel will, no matter what is on it will, my point is that some customers are looking for product that PRODUCES smoke, and some vendors are selling it on this pretense...I dont see how this can help us advance this great hobby we all have...

I agree with you longhorn. I see diesels taking over a larger share of the market but I think it's going to take quite some time to infiltrate the passenger car market. We've seen a few diesel suv's here and there but people are so stuck on gasoline for their cars. I did a job for a guy who was from Venzuela last week and was talking to him about diesels. He told me that about 80% of the cars and trucks there are diesel. Kind of like europe, many of their cars are diesels.

I agree 100%...dont get me wrong, Im not supporting the article, but I do think Gale Banks is one of the true diesel pioneers in the industry...
