Default Which gasser if you didnt need diesel?

So it seems I have a buyer for my cummins 12V ford 2wd van, and if it sells Id like to replace it with the 4x4 truck I should have bought.. Id like to find a clean 1998 or earlier dodge diesel manual truck, but most of what I'm finding locally is high mile and rusted..

If I decide to buy a gas truck since I don't own my 24' toy hauler anymore and only towed it 2000 miles a year anyway and hardly a justification to buy diesel.. What truck/engine would you suggest or do you drive? I might want to tow a camper less than 18' in the future though. Gas mileage isn't a huge concern.

Man I'm going to miss my beastly van.

Thanks !

I was in the same boat when I sold my '96 beast. Looking for mileage, mostly driving to work. Bought a Dodge Nitro, good mileage, fun to drive, just a bit too small for me.
Now own a 2017 Ram 1500 V6. Running 23 mpg so far. Not a speed demon, but don't really need it for work. I do miss the torque!
My research showed fuel mileage rose around 2013, so I wanted something at least that new. Problem is, prices on used were almost what a new one would cost, with incentives.
If mileage isn't a concern, the hemi is a pretty good motor.
If you don't care which brand, just find something low mileage, with a good body.
I used cars.com a lot when I was looking, also watch craigslist.

Thanks Racer9.

My cummins van was great when I towed a 24' toyhauler, but since I sold it Iv had my van up for sale also. Someone as crazy as me finally found it and made a offer I couldn't pass up. I have this feeling I'm going to regret selling it when I finally find a smaller camper/toyhauler.. But what I really need is a 4x4 that fits under a 7' garage door that can tow maybe 4000-5000 lbs once a year to colorado.

What ever vehicle I replace it with will never get 28 mpg unloaded and 15 mpg towing a 24' lifter toyhauler on the interstate though.. But what do I care? I only tow about 2000 miles a year.

If I wasn't a die hard Dodge/Ram guy, I'd look at (cough, cough) Toyota

I'd hate to say it, but if I couldn't buy Dodge I might just buy a bicycle.
