San Antonio has a deal to "help" the environment ... they'll give you $80 for your gas mower if you buy an electric one.

I thought about it, until I saw the kid down the street struggling through some thick grass with his electric mower; that a gasser wouldn't even sneeze at.

We are on the edge of the EPA air quality limits or whatever for being required to smog vehicles. I'd feel better about it if San Antonio had any industry that caused our local air quality problems... but we don't. I am told our bad air comes up from Mexico City, Houston and Dallas and hovers over us depending on which way the wind is blowing. :argh:

Here in Kalifornia ALL of our gas power equipment, newer stuff from a couple years back, are emissions savvy. I've noticed when looking @ stuff on line, we usually end up paying $20-40 more for emission friendly stuff.

No doubt about it, EPA even put a catalytic muffler on half the chain saws I run. First thing I do is rip them off, because it makes the saw run so hot they burn themselves up, even if you richen up the carb. I throw on pre-EPA stuff, and port them, then richen up the carb... gets you at least 10% more power, and the saw will last a lot longer.

I wanted a 2 stroke so I found a 03 Lawnboy with one there good mowers. Even the new 4 stroke LBs are good mowers they have a 6.5 HP Tecumseh.

got a 6.75 horsepower craftsman with Briggs and Stratton engine. its piece of crap and can't go through 5 inch grass without emptying the bag after 2 passes. but i have fun and take of the muffler and make the thing backfire. after that i press the primer button about 85 times and put just enough fuel that it doesn't flood it but when i start it starts and starts smoking like a diesel engine. pisses my dad off

I bought a used honda self propelled push mower(rear wheel drive,3 speed) about four years ago.I've ran the crap out of that thing and it still runs great.I get it serviced every year before the mowing season starts. That thing just won't die.If it does one day i'm buying another honda.:U:

my dad bought a new snapper 10 years ago and gave me his old one which is now pushing 30. not sure how many engines the thing has had but right now it runs great with the 6hp honda i put on it last winter.

its the old walkbehind "hi vac" style of mower. the brand new ones still look the same. :U:
