Default Tough Call (Long Rant)

I have been pretty much on my back since Thursday, I went out yesterday to check the mail and then came back in.

I walked by the car and truck parked in the driveway and came back in. This morning around 2:00 I was trolling this website and my truck started beeping letting me know something was around but I could not get out of the chair so I said "oh well until the siren goes off I will not worry".

About 10 minutes later I hear a car down the street doing a brake stand. Still nothing more thought about my truck and it beeping.

This morning I am standing in the driveway waiting on the wife to pull out of the garage so we can head to Church I am inspecting the truck to make sure all is ok and it is. WHAT IS NOT is the egg all over the windshield of my car. Nor are the potatoes sticking out of the tailpipe. All morning at Church I am fuming mad because the people that were doing the brake stands I have known their parents since they were 4-5 years old. Now they are 16-17 and our neighbors. I do not talk to them as much as I used to but our kids go to the same high school but are not in the same circle of friends. But I think knowing them for 12 or so years I should have immunity from their kids messing with my car. Am I crazy?

I get home from Church, still barely able to walk much less get down in or out of the car. I have to wash this crap off of the car. So I go plug in the water hose under the bushes and before I get the hose unrolled the hose blows off the faucet. I finally get it washed off and decide I am going to go crawl 3 doors down and talk to my friends. Of course they are not home and my wife is telling me that I cannot assume it was them.

What to do? I simply want to tell my friends that their daughters boyfriend and his friends IMO egged and vandalized my car last night, I want to tell them that my truck was beeping at me to notify me someone was out there shortly before the brake stands that came from their house. I want to tell my friends to let the boyfriend know that if I catch them at my house doing something to my truck or car I will shoot them on the spot and assume they were going to vandalize my property again.

The thing is, we have lived in this house for 8 years. Last year our home was broken into when we went out of town. It was my daughters ex-friend who knew we were out of town. Other then that we have had no problems with anything. In fact I leave the top off the car several times a week and never think about it.

So should I listen to my wife and let it blow over and write it off as kids play?
Do I go talk to the neighbors and let them know I will kill them for messing with my stuff?
Do sit in my garage with a video knowing that they will probably not do it again but try to catch them?
Call the police and let them deal with it when the friendlier way to handle it would be keep the law out of it and deal with it man to man.
Offer them $100.00 cash for telling me who did it and then taking it up with the person that did it directly?

I probably would just let it blow over but I feel like since my friends daughter is somewhat responsible I should talk to them.

If you dont do anything about it, the kids will probably go out and egg some more vehicles, and next time they will probably hit your truck.

Dont say you would kill them, it probably can be used against you, but let them know that you know that they did do it and warn them that the law will be involved next time.

If they are going out to do it again they'll probably be back within the next two weeks up to no good, if you do manage to catch them on tape be sure to get as much info about the vehicle and driver as possible.

They really wont help much with some hard evidence an egg on the windshield it could be anybody, cops have bigger problems to worry about.

100 probably wont be enough to get some one to rat on their friend, but if a bystander was around you can get to them probably

I probably would just let it blow over but I feel like since my friends daughter is somewhat responsible I should talk to them.

If you don't do anything about it this will keep on happening.

I hope this helps.

I have a story about what me and a few friends did to vandals thats best reserved for the bad lands

i dont think they will be thinking of doing that again

in the old days you could load some shot shells with rock salt and wait for them to come back, these days it will land you in jail. Kids these days have no respect, I think I would talk to their parents and see where that led.

If they're not egging cars, they're breaking into buildings. I would talk to their parents.

with the shape your in i would look at something that dosent involve confrontation......cause your most likely gonna lose a fight......just video tape them doing it and turn it into the police, or just skip the police (most police wont do anything about it) and file civil suit against them.....

I agree with the video tape. I have seen security systems at home depot that have sensors that once someone enters in that area the cameras will turn on. I would put cameras at all corners of the house to make sure if they come back you get them and even the vehicle that they are in. But try to put the cameras up in a way that they will not see you doing it maybe bright and early when they are still in bed.

I know how you feel though. One night Ryan and I got home pretty late and right when we pulled into the drive way we realized that we had to go to the store to pick something up. On our way out I noticed that one of our neighbors (known for being a drugie) was standing in his yard. When we got back from the store I noticed my interior light was on inside my car, I thought no big deal I probably just forgot to turn it off. I open my drivers door and all my seats are pushed forward my cd player, 12" memphis sub, amp and box are all gone. I knew who it was but there was nothing I could do about it the cops said I had to have proof. The car had whole hand prints on the windows from where they leaned into the car but the cop said "it would be a waste of time".

A few weeks later one of our neigbors came home late and caught him in their car. He had their glove box open and papers all over the place. When they asked him what he was doing he said "I was just cold and trying to get warm". They held him there until the cops got there and he was in jail for about a year and a half he is now out and still when I see him I want to get out and punch him in the face.

I hope you catch them!

First off, I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling well.

Personally, I would go talk to the parents. I would leave the threatening out of it because it can come back haunt you later. I would just explain that you know who did it and think they should be aware. I would also tell the parents that you feel they are responsible for the people they allow over at their house and expect them to keep a closer watch. I would rather someone come talk to me face to face than go through the police.

I would look into a simple camera system. I have seen them at northern tool for $99. I have almost bought it because it is so cheap that it just makes sense.

Hopefully the egg didn't damage your paint.
