No, You Can Import Music Without Downloading Music From Itunes.. It's Just Doubles As The Sync Software And A Price Gouging Downloading Agent.

Why would you want to? iTunes is about as simple as they come to run, download, and sync. Its free, for everything but downloading music, like updates and whatnot. You can find some decent free music or padcasts on there though.

Yeah, you can. For windows machines, theres anapod explorer: Anapod Explorer™ iPod Software, iPod Backup, iTunes Alternative, iPod Transfer, iPod Manager, iPod Management, iPod Explorer, iPod Utility, iTunes Replacement, iPod Copy, iPod Freeware, iPod Managing, PC Software, Windows Software, Windows Vista Soft
It's pretty slick software. I still use iTunes, cause it's easy... and I guess I'm a sheep.

For Linux, there are several. I prefer Banshee.
