bulb Sqeezing a tid-bit of power out of a '07 DT466...

Hey e'rebody,

After some research, I've totally decided against a plug-n-play power module. This is a company truck, and I like my job, so I don't want to alter anything that could endanger it's reliability.

Mainly, I want to help out the company by getting a little more MPG's out of it, if possible. I drive a route, about 170 miles a day on average. 50/50 - highway/city. and currently average 8 MPG with Economy mode on. The truck only has 45k on it. It has a 24' box on it. No more than ~6,000 lbs fully loaded.

My first thought was to ditch the muffler. I was thinking of simply putting a turn-down instead of the muffler. Check out the pics. The Orange square is a clamp.

Will this help, for starters? What should I reasonably expect out of this lil mod? What else could I try?

Thanks!
-Andrew

I would think it should help it a little, any time its breathing easier its going to run better. The company you work for isnt going to care that your truck now has a little rumble to it?

No, no exhaust brake. I don't even have an onboard air system, it's hydraulic/disks. (not that it's relevant, just sayin')

And Aggie, IDK if they will or not... My manager is pretty cool, but I think I'd like to hear it before I tell him my 'plan'.

As they say, "It's easier to ask Forgiveness than permission" ...... right?

Str8 piping makes it real loud and annoying. I did one to a DT466 work truck with a stack, 4 -5 years ago, and most other guys wont even drive it because of that.
If it's under 250hp, then you can get injectors swapped out to the higher hp rated ones. Not a cheap mod, but it'll give a nice gain, and you dont have to do all the work. I can give you the last 8 of a VIN for a 300hp 07 DT466, if you need that to order the injectors.
If they want symptoms:
-fuel smell in the oil.
-low oil pressure.
-misfire under load.

The injector number from Alliant is AP66879. It fits 04-07, basically the EGR equipped DT's that arent equipped with a factory DPF.
Certainly not a cheap fix, but sure would make it more fun to drive.

Thanks for all of the advice.

I think I've decided against straight-piping the exhaust... I don't want it to be TOO loud! It's already loud enough as-is.

Thanks again
