Fuel From One Tank
My truck started using fuel from only one tank
I have a 2001 Volvo 660 with 2, 125 gal. tanks and for the last two weeks it is using more fuel out of the right tank some times the left tank will have 20" of fuel and right tank only have 9" Then the next time I get fuel both tanks go down the same.
I have tried pulling off the suction lines and both are clear and flow well.
So I think it's in the return line where it splits to go to both tanks I think there is a PSI regulator at least it looks like one.
Has anyone had this happen and what was the fix.

does it pull from both tanks simultaneously or is there a switcher valve like on a pick-up truck??? if you have a return with the same setup going to the tanks it sounds like you have a blockage atleast or there could be something mechanical, im no big truck expert but i would start simple and work to the complex, make sure all your lines, fittings, regulators and other stuff are free and clean......

I have ran it this problem several times. i run a small fleet of Volvo day cabs. It is always the return splitter. It is actualy returning more fuel to one side than the other. It should be easy to find. Mine are all mounted just behind the cab on a cross member. The fuel lines look like 1/2" plastic air line coming from and going to it. They are usually a little wet from fuel seeping from them.

Ok so I replace the return splitter and think I am good to go. NOT
So I keep running and thinking what could be wrong
Then last night I run out of fuel with 3/4 full in one tank empty in the passanger side tank. So when I take the cap off the driver side tank to look in I hear a sucking sound I open the pasanger side tank and can see fuel running in. The truck restarted and I make it home. so I pull the vent off the driver side tank and it looks ok and the hose to the vent is wire tied to the sending unit wires, well I have to check it so I cut the ties off and the hose is pluged with a spidders nest a little fuel and road grim I could not blow it out had to dig some of it out first thei it all came out. Fuel tanks equlized and I am good to go again. So I say live and learn, man this is a ruff road.
