You saying two stroke detroits are garbage?
2 shay sir. I completely forgot about the two strokes all together. I recant my statement. Those motors are pretty badass.

i know the rig i work on has 3-3408's on it and they run for weeks/months on end and only shut down to change the fluids and filters and never once have we had a hiccup with any of them, and i know they have tons of hours on them, and i have heard the 3208 was junk, but never once have i heard of the 3408 being junk, until now

I was on a 12v71 kick, but then I started to see the part availability was low. I want to be able to fix the thing reasonably if need be. Too bad these aren't sitting around like small block chevy!!

Put a Caterpillar 3412 in it Theres a Peterbilt on Youtube with a 3412. They come with just over 1000hp and who knows how much torque.

Dang wouldnt mind havin that Pete

Whats the displacement on that engine though? It would appear they were mainly an industrial engine and not used in OTR trucks.

the 3408's were tough so were the V8 Macks. the 3208 cats were junk. they didnt have enough power to get out of there own way. i would go with either a B model cat 3406B or Big Cam Cummins. i got one of each and i love em both. you can lug the **** out of the cat and it will keep on pullin and the big cam cummins just keeps pullin in the high rpms it never quits. either one would be a sweet choice for an old school rig

what ever you decide on put up some pics of it.
