DRIVERS FYI

Nationwide DOT check beginning on Monday at midnight. Time to start duckin scales!!

MRaynor 06-03-2007 08:48 PM

I will keep ya posted as to what they are doing around here if it helps any. I pass by 3 of them all the time.

Mr. Miyagi 06-03-2007 11:45 PM

Here's an idea......run your truck legal. :scared2:

lol

Longhorn 06-04-2007 12:10 AM

Yep...makes things very simple....Im good for another 6 months....

Oasis3 06-04-2007 12:13 AM

They can fined something wrong with every truck if they want to.

Cliff

Longhorn 06-04-2007 12:27 AM

I agree they can try, but darn it feels good to whip into the scales knowing your stuff is all up to par....let em look if they want...If they do find something, then get it fixed....way better than to try and run the scale and get caught, then they REALLY look!!

Uncle Bubba 06-04-2007 02:07 AM

If DOT wants ya they got ya. Just smile and nod your head, I call it my doggy in the window routine. If they decide they don't like your looks they just interperet the rule a little different. Don't matter your gonna be on the other end of the country on the court date anyway. Damn I'm glad I quite drivin. Now I just mess with it at harvest time. Then you get the pleasure of the portable scales. I know I'm busted every time I see em. With the price of fuel, we load these trucks to the gills on the way to the bins.

Mr. Miyagi 06-04-2007 08:53 PM

License plate lights are a classic one for fix-it tickets.

06 DIESEL 06-04-2007 09:01 PM

Yep, the portable scales suck, I almost got caught by one last fall in the tractor and grain cart. Single axle 875 bushel cart that filled the semi so it had about 1000 bushels in it, I'm glad I looked down the road before I got on it.

dozerboy 06-04-2007 09:58 PM

I have never had a problem at the scales that shows you how much I drive, but they did nail me in our dually once.

jasonfriedlin 06-05-2007 09:59 PM

If they want ya, they got ya. Ain't nothin u can do about it. My truck is always legal, for the most part, it's the logbook that's only legal when you stop and redo it. Any driver with a fast truck ought to know that, especially when you r going cross-country.

If logbook 2 has something to say what did 3 and 4 do sing out loud? :pc: I use to run whith a guy back in 1985 who could keep up with 5 logbooks yet I could hardly keep up 2 let alone 5 lie books at one time :sen:

Cowboy_Customs 06-06-2007 05:06 PM

lol, nahhh, by the time number 2 had something to say, i was sleepin. I didnt ever push hard enough to become dangerous when I was driving a big truck.
Wow, 5? its hard enough trying to get a third work out n not get confused let alone 5! :sen:

jasonfriedlin 06-06-2007 07:40 PM

5, how'd he pull that off? I have a hard enough time keepin up with one. I don't know anybody who has got nailed for anything yet, some states ain't even got there scales open. Went by 2 in Mo. today and 1 out of 2 in Iowa that were closed. Maybe they're on strike.:pc: Illinois was workin hard on I-64 yesterday, Iowa on the SB I-29 today, that's all I've really seen. I'd like to keep this thread goin for future use if anybody finds out anything useful we need to know about. Stay away from S.D., I just about got tornadoed about 20 minutes ago. It blew the door off the truck stop I pulled into right as I was runnin inside.

'm just kiddin. I do run legal 99.5% of the time. You can't get away with nothin no more. During these 72 hour deals though, you have to be extra legal, because they are picky.:admin: My goal with this thread is for everybody to keep everybody else up to date with new laws and other things that drivers need to know to stay within the law. Those awards get too expensive and we work to hard to be givin it all back to the man with the shiny badge and gun. Everybody be careful, thanks for keepin your eyes open for us.

Every scale I have passed has actually been closed more than usual. Haven't even seen many DOT cars running around either.
The scales I am talking about are on I-20 E between Columbia SC and Augusta GA. I-20 W just west of Columbia. I-26 E & W between Columbia and Spartanburg.

Cowboy_Customs 06-06-2007 10:08 PM

yeah, its good to have everyone workin together on this. Drivers need to be helping fellow drivers not being pricks. Its nice to be updated on this stuff, we got benough junk to be concerned with as it is. :s:

Isn't that weird, I think some states boycott it. Thanks for lookin out though, we appreciate it.:c:

Oasis3 06-09-2007 01:48 AM

FYI

If any of you run I 78 East or West in NJ at about the 6 yard stick they have built some new super coops. Well in there rush to get the permits to build them some how they missed the fine print and they can only be open dust to dawn they have to close at night :sen: Man do the trucks ever roll down that road at night

Cliff

Cowboy_Customs 06-09-2007 07:41 AM

ohhh yeah, I remember seein the super coops last time I rolled through there. I avoid that road like the plague, I vote that as the worst road in America! Right next to rollin north into Detroit!

jasonfriedlin 06-09-2007 11:40 AM

I try to stay out of N.J. all together, and I've managed to avoid Detroit all this time too. Boy, I came across Montana for the first time yesterday, it was incredible.

Cowboy_Customs 06-09-2007 02:45 PM

Sweet, I havent been across Montana in forever! I love it out there. I ran 70 out of Salt Lake city on my way to Chicago back in the end of fall n hit a nice little snow storm in Wyoming, that was a nice drive dispite the snow. Saw a real good accident that looked like 2 big trucks, but ended up being 1 that the driver jack knifed so hard he split the trailer in 2 pieces! :duh3:

Oasis3 06-09-2007 07:49 PM

I-78

I run I-78 all the time it's my bread and butter :w2: EZ load good pay and the road is getting a little better.

Cliff

jasonfriedlin 06-12-2007 11:38 PM

Does anybody know why there is a "Port of Entry" right slam in the middle of Wyoming on I-90 and one on each end too? And why stuff is so expensive in Washington? I like to went more broke out there over the weekend!!"give:

MobileDynoDude 06-13-2007 08:06 AM

I'm not registered as a commercial truck, but I tow my dyno around attending events, doing dyno days, and to customers locations. I am wondering if I'll have a problem with DOT? The truck isn't lettered, but the trailer is. Should I also have "Not for hire" added? My understanding is that since I'm not transporting anything for someone else, I didn't need to be commercial, but I'm always watching my mirrors for the red and blue lights.

Cowboy_Customs 06-13-2007 08:27 AM

Thats acctually a very touchy subject really. Some Dieselbears will pull over a dually pulling a 40ft race car trailer from NY in.... Maryland Stating its commercial business cause hes making money (winnings) from racing.
Others wont touch a 3 car haulin hotshot with a 10 foot pole, n hes obviously making money n over weight. especially the non stickered ones.
Honestly, I would call DOT and ask that question. Then Call them 10 days later n ask again just to see what answers u get.
Not DMV, DOT. dmv is worthless, I dont care what state your in.
Honestly, I dont think you need to be stickered as a regulated/registered as a commercial transporter, being as you are most likely already registered as a business owner n all that junk.

MobileDynoDude 06-13-2007 09:01 AM

Thanks, I will call DOT to see what they say. I haven't been pulled over yet, but my luck may run out someday. The truck I tow with is in my sig, and the trailer is a 7'x14' twin axle utility trailer. I'm not worried about weight since the dyno weighs a total of about 3500#, and the trailer is rated for 10k. I've been told once that having lettering on the truck makes it commercial. That's from a guy who drives a tow truck. Not sure how accurate he is, so I figured I'd ask here.

Cowboy_Customs 06-13-2007 03:24 PM

ohhh that how big it is? LOL, I was thinkin somethin bigger.
Yeah one u letter the truck for the business, now your advertising. I dont think id worry with something that small. The trailer is registered right?

jasonfriedlin 06-13-2007 10:57 PM

What I would do is just stay out of the scales altogether, and keep doin it like you are. If they mess with you, go to court, more than likely the judge will throw it out. I saw a minivan pullin a little U-Haul trailer go in a set of scales in Va once, then he was goin around the back to get some kinda ticket, not sure what. A lot of people go in scales when they don't need to or can get away with out goin in. It's when you go in there that you get in trouble. That's my advice.

MobileDynoDude 06-14-2007 07:03 AM

Yeah, the trailer is registered, and I have never bothered stopping at the scales so I don't know the exact weight, but I just don't want the hassle of getting a ticket... or worse. I'll call DOT to see what they say, and I'll avoid the scales too.

Thanks for the advise.

jasonfriedlin 06-14-2007 10:47 PM

Anytime, me and most other drivers are very familiar with the dot laws, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask away. Most of the time we can tell you the law, then how to get around it.:w2::up:

Cowboy_Customs 06-15-2007 09:12 AM

LOL, better believe it! :w2:

jasonfriedlin 07-20-2007 09:35 PM

Don't play around with the redlights in Benbrook Tx. just for your information. I am the proud recipient of yet another ridiculous driving award. People r gonna start gettin jealous of all my trophies after awhile.

MRaynor 07-21-2007 09:07 PM

If any of you come through Columbia SC on I-20 or I-26 watch the speed. Troopers have been sitting on the bridges with radar guns and a line of cop cars or trucks on the get on ramp to chase you down.
As far as weigh stations, all have been closed more than usual, and that has been the norm all over the state lately.

jasonfriedlin 07-23-2007 06:42 PM

Yeah, they like to sit on the bridges on I-85 in S.C. too with a laser and 5 chase cars 1/4 mile up the road.
