Well, it's true CAT will be no longer producing OTR engines as of 2009! I couldn't believe when I read the article but they have sold to Navistar / International and will be still making CAT engines and equipment for OR applications (construction equipment, marine equipment).

This pretty much says that anyone who thought they were going to team up with Toyota, Ford and even Dodge to make a motor for OTR is mistaken.

All I can say is wow... All because of emmissions too boot.

If this is the first, it most certainly won't be the last.

Way it sounds, Ford is going to get out of trucks and SUV's and lean toward fuel efficient cars. I wonder if living another 20 years is going to be worth it?

I bet Cat will get back in the on road diesel game in the future, I have no proof, just a hunch.

Nope. Not according to the CEO.

The statement reads:

CAT made a pretty clear statement here.

"We know vertically integrated off-highway equipment. We're good at it. And that's where we're going to spend our money."

I highly doubt it, especially after they got spanked in late 03/early 04 with the "Bridge" motors they were fined on. I honestly don't blame cat, I wonder how long before the urapeen motors come full swing into the U.S.

They are great engines and pull like no other, one of the problems though is that they were so much more expensive to buy and to get worked on, the computer program for the newer engines is $50,000 for five years of it, so only a select few could work on them if you didnt have the program you cant do squat.

I didnt see where they sold to navistar/international, but are rather going into a joint venture to build off-highway trucks with cat engines. As according to Landline magazine. And I too agree, this may not be the last, all because of 2010 emissions. I have heard however as according to landline, that Cummins big truck engines have met and exceeded the 2010, and do NOT have a DPF. This BS has to stop, these damn "special interest" tree hugging hippies need to lay off and go save a whale from a chinese whaling boat or something. WTF!
