When you touch it, do any of the numbers light up? If so, then it doesn't need replacing. Chances are the previous owner changed the passcode to their own personal code. You can bring it to Ford and have them read the code on it, or anyone with AutoEnginuity should be able to retrieve it too.

On my '05 and '06 F550 work trucks, both the factory code and code that I learned into it worked. I was surprised that the factory code worked after I learned my code into it, I thought it would only store one code.

Good point Ryan, never really thought about that since I've always just used the factory code, but now that you mention it I do remember reading that somewhere when programming a buddies.

If the numbers light up when you touch a button, it should work, if not, then it will need to be fixed. I don't know how the factory one's are wired up, but I'd imagine they're hard wired!?

You can get add-on ones from Ford that are battery operated and just stick on with double sided tape.

In my Lincoln, after you press the code, you hit another number on the pad & it would open the trunk, or rear doors
