Here are a few pics of mine. They are in a second gen. formed with fiberglass, holds two Rockford 10's and thumps. No stealth box or anything Ive seen compares. I had mine built for me at a custom audio shop, worth every penny.

Hopefully the links work...

Coaldumper, you're famous! That is the exact pic I had seen on the other site. That is a sweet setup! I'm looking to do the job in wood (MDF), so it wouldn't be as fancy a setup as you have. Would you be able to give me the dimensions of the box? I'd like to see if I could make it work. Being the fiberglass is thinner, you'd be able to get more cabinet volume than the wooden box.

I've been looking at the Pioneer Premier shallow mount subs. The 10" is only 3" deep. I was thinking that I might be able to work out something nice with those firing up, what do you think? Anyone familiar with these subs?

I don't care for Pioneer subs and you don't need a shallow mount sub if you go with a box like his. What is your price range and what kind of amp do you have? How much airspace is that box?

I haven't bought the components yet, but this is what I'm planning:

Infinity Kappa 60.7cs components (front)
Infinity Kappa 52.7i coaxials (rear)
Crunch PZI550.5 five channel amplifier (125W x 4-Ch + 200W x 1-Ch @ 2-Ohms)
10" subwoofer(s) (havent decided which, maybe 2 x Kicker Comp VT CVT102)

I'm not looking to impress anyone with volume, I just want good clean sound with a full bottom end.

Any comments/suggestions?

Shhhh....enough allready with the famous stuff. Im trying to stay low key

No sweat on the dimensions, I'll get them to you this weekend. Youd think I had them memorized, due to the amount of times Ive been asked for them.

The only part of the box that is fiberglass is the base, the rest is wood. It made for a really nice fit on the floor of the truck. Nice and snug.

I too, am not a fan of Pioneer subs. I had a pair in my truck for about six minutes before I tore them out and put my Rockford Punch's in. My set up is a few years old now. Im not really sure what a good way to go is, as I havent been in the market for a long time. My Punch's are still thumpin

Your going to need another amp to power the subs? Give me an idea on prices for a amp and subs.

The Crunch PZI550.5 amp I can get for $120. It has a mono class D 200W sub channel, why would I need another amp? Like I said before, I just want clean sound not a "stereo on wheels."

The Kicker Comp VT CVT102 subwoofers I can get for around $60 each.

I noticed in another thread you said you didn't like Crunch amps, why? They are made by the same company as Hifonics and they also own MB Quart. I've read nothing but good things about their products.

As far as Phoenix Gold is concerned; I steered clear of them because their Octane-R amps don't mean to be 2 ohm stable and the speakers I've chosen are 2 ohms.

Question: Would there be any performance difference between running a SVC 2 ohm sub or a DVC 4 ohm sub wired for 2 ohms?

BTW: Where in So Cal? I'm in Mission Viejo.

Most people use a 4 ch amp for the components and such and a mono for subs, but you must be planing to using the head unit for the components? Just because one company make a few amps doesn't make them all equal. IMO Crunch aren't SQ amps and that isn't such a problem when its used to push subs.

Some say generally being a DVC means the sub is a better quality, but I don't know if there is any truth to that.

I would get This amp IMO. FYI I have bought several things from this site and never had a problem, but some have.

My plan was to run the components from the front two channels, the rear coaxials from the rear two channels and the sub from the fifth mono channel.

I know that you can take a DVC sub, rated at 4 ohms, and wire them together to get 2 ohms. I was just wondering if this route would provide a more stable, longevity wise, 2 ohm platform than a SVC 2 ohm sub?

I like the idea of the RF, but what do you think of this?

Ok I missed that it was a 5ch amp(I've never used one). Some say using a DVC is better then a SVC, but personal I haven't seen a difference. Personal I'd pick on price and if that's the same I would get the SVC since its easy to wire. The RF and Orion are only 4 ch amps so you would need to get another amp or use the HU to power the components which you may not be happy with. I've had good luck with Orion amps in the past for powering subs, but I never tried them on components or used any of there new amps.
