Default Auxillary Lights Hooked to High Beams write up

1998.5-2001 Dodge Auxillary Light Hook Up

Hey guys, I just finished hooking up my new set of Hella 500FF Driving Lights to my High Beams (Brights) But I spent a good portion of my time researching how to do this, luckily with the help of the good people here at Diesel Bombers I got er done...

First thing you need to do is find a set of lights you want, and also make sure your are withing the legal limits of your state. I live in colorado and the limit is no more than four lights on at a time, have to be turned on with the high beams ONLY!!!! and can not be any higher than your headlights for on-road use and cannot exceed 150,000 Candle Power.. Colorado Statute 4-4-219

WARNING:: I am not liable if you get pulled over and I turn out to be wrong! i did not go to havard (did I spell it right?) I went to diesel tech school. you've been warned... CHECK YOUR LAWS!!!

Fist off! Pull the driver side battery and disconnect the passenger battery(save your self the shock)

You will have to pull the bolts out of the battery cover two on the bottom, two on the side of the fender and two under the truck where the wheel well is..

next is I pulled the parking lamp out its quite easy to do just a philips screw driver and then pull it forward of the truck and disconnect bulb.. Next What I did was pull the parking lamp harness out and disconnect the bulb from the headlamp. Cut away the sheath on the headlamp harness. The high beam wire is Red with an orange tracer/stripe. I cut about as far away as I could from the connector but with enough room to splice the wires back together with the trigger wire for the relay...

next take you power wire and connect it to your positive side of the battery, and the ground the Negative Side of the battery..

Now if you are trying to find a good spot to put the relay, I put it on with the battery hold down, so i can get to it, and didnt have to break the holder for the relay...

Next I ran the output wire (which is black for Hellas) thru the crack on the headlamps, if you run along the radiator you run the risk of burning the insulation and shorting out..

Now its simple from here hook the out put wires to the lights and find a good ground on the frame for the lights. I had to use extra wire to get a good ground on my truck.. Which is a downside I thought for the hellas.

I hope this helps anyone trying to blind the night, because I know its a pain to see way out there with just headlamps, and since it was legal here in colorado WHY NOT!!!

If you got extra imput add it here! or questions give me a PM I will help you the best I can or point you to the right person that can help you!!!

Keep BOMBIN'

This little guy would do the trick, doesn't stick out too much either:
SPDT Round Rocker Switch | Switches | Installation Supplies | Super Bright LEDs

If you ever do want to put the switch in, it's pretty easy to do. I really like the website those switches come from. So many possibilities with their products.

I have a spare wire with a fuse that I can use for the switch when I get to it! that way I can have em shut off and still use my brights... if must need!!! because if I drive around with these puppies on. People are not gonna be happy!
