Default vacume pump

think my vacume pump is going out, having brake issues and disconnected the line right off the pump and it barely sucks my finger to it, is it possible/okay to use a electric pump instead of replacing the factory one? thinking from a reliability stand point

the factory one is very reliable. but if u can get a electric one cheap do it. if u need to replace the factory one, they dont come with the pulley. you will need a ps pulley puller to remove and install.

If you're going to look for a new pump the best deal I found was on Amazon.com

Amazon.com: Apdty F4tz-2A451-A Vacuum/Smog Pump For 7.3L Diesel Ford Trucks/Econoline Vans: Automotive Amazon.com: Apdty F4tz-2A451-A Vacuum/Smog Pump For 7.3L Diesel Ford Trucks/Econoline Vans: Automotive

It's listed for the early powerstroke trucks, but the pump is the same as the 6.9 and on. There are TWO differences with this pump from an original one I pulled off my 6.9 truck (1985)

1) The outlet is facing downward at an angle instead of up, you may need a longer hose, especially if yours has been cut previously. On the 6.9 truck I could reroute it, but I'm not sure it is the original hose.

2) The holes that mount it to the bracket are not tapped like the one I took off, I had to source slightly longer bolts and used lock nuts with them.

It's a brand new pump, tag says manufactured in hungary.

I put it on the 6.9 yesterday, and will do the 7.3 truck later today.
