Nope, though some can be beneficial. As long as the oil meets or exceeds the standards required for your motor, you should be good. The rating should be in a little circle on the back label of the oil jug. Example CI-4, which is better than CH-4.

You should never put anything but fresh oil in the engine. Use synthetic.

Lucas is about the worst garbage that can be put in an engine other than additives that have PTFE/Teflon.

Haters gotta hate

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

According to the Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic jug, it "features advanced, multi- functional additive technology". Does that mean I shouldn't use it?

It has no business being used in engines. DuPont even sued several companies to try and stop them from using it because its so bad for engines, they lost.

That isn't synthetic, its a group III oil, a "faux synthetic". Its just normal oil that has been refined more than normal and US law allows them to call it "synthetic". You can thank Castrol for that legal loophole.

No, I'm calling you a hater, hating Lucas

So what counts as synthetic, Mobil One? That's what the Exxon-Mobil sales rep said, but he also said it has an additive package, which would disqualify it from use in your engine.
