Ok folks. I have a 06 cummins and was wondering if it would be ok to use it all year round since it is a anti-gel but also lubricant. I only put in a little bit every fill up. Instead of the 2 stroke oil. What's your guy's opinions or facts that you have thanks!

 

I have no facts, but I've been running it in my '06 all winter without any issues. I don't think the 3rd Gen's really need it like the VP44 trucks do...

 

I hate howes hurt my fuel milage I use powerservice octane boost not 911, you could also use ATF Just dont let the law dip you tank itll taint it red.

 

I suppose they must have the fuel already formulated pretty good from the pump to keep it from gelling. Every winter around here we get a bunch of semis towed into the shop to get their fuel tanks and lines thawed out. That's got me convinced to run a little extra treatment, at least during the winter. Shouldn't hurt to run it year round, other than perhaps your mileage.

 

I use Howes & 2 stroke & occasionly throw in cheap sae 30w. I was unaware that Howes can hurt your fuel mileage. Any input will be helpful,not sure if throwing in the 30weight will help like atf does for hotter burning power?

 

I haven't noticed any fuel mileage difference with or without the Howes.

 

Hmm I will have give this a try if it hurts my mpg's. Since i work road construction I like to run it year round just cause it might give my truck a little added protection if I was to happen a not so nice batch of fuel.. but i only put in a splash every fill up.. but next time I fill up ill not run it and see what the mpg's do.. if they show better fuel mileage ill consider not putting it in every tank.. but I do like hoses being 75% of truckers use it and its a pretty good name.

 

I use it just about every fill up. That is if i remember. its in the tool box in the bed and well for some reason i forget. haven't seen any decrees in fuel millage but no real gain either. Truck seems to run a little smoother with it but that could be in my head.

 

Adding anti gel reduces milage so dont use it during warm months.Its like when refineries switch to winter blend diesel and all the threads start here asking if anybody else has mysterously lost milage.And never use 911 unless its a emergency (like gelled up on the side of the road). It is not a regular maintnance fuel additive.

 

You're wasting you money.

If yo feel compelled to add something add some Lucas injector cleaner to it. All Howes was designed to do is keep it from gelling up.

Concentrate on buying your fuel at the same place. THAT'S the key to good engine life.

In addition, you don't need to change fuel filters every 5,000 miles like some will tell you. I can't tell you the last time i changed mine - except for the one I have under the bed to filer the used motor oil that I burn.

AND...........you don't need to use anti-gell all winter! Good, #2 diesel's not gonna gell up on you at anything over "0" degrees unless you buy that bio-diesel crap. the maybe you should put the gell-factor up to 5 degrees.
