Question 7.3 IDI pulling, on hills, vs newer diesel?

I took a mechanics class, but one thing has always stumped me, I have two trucks, a 1990 f-350 IDI, and a 2012,F-250 SD Powerstroke. They both pull good but I'd like to know how they get upto their speed when pulling a load with a gooseneck? Sure the f250 has the turbo, but I wanna know whats goin on between the Direct injection and the IDI systems on both that help them sustain the effort for puling? Powerstroke when ur pullin with it, it feels like when you reach peak RPM, u cant pull or go anymore, power just seems to be no endurance because of the lower compression and turbo? IDI even though lower 185 HP and 388ft torque, I feel my truck has the best pulling ability, because, lower fuel pressure, 211 insted of 161 compression, it just has the slow endurance i look for, the slower endurance i want and need. (Anybody else think i may have said something wrong or would like to explain it to me IDI owner or powerstroke feel free to)

You need to get a bigger trailer My 85 6.9 diesel with 4.10 gears and a manual 4 speed, can only get my 32 foot cattle trailer when loaded up to 35 mph on the gravel. My 11 powerstroke will cruise down interstate at 75.
I have pulled against several 7.3 IDI back in the day with my 6.9 and they could never pull away from me except the one with the turbo.

I know what you mean the newer diesel seem like they can bog down with a load at a certain RPMs, I never messed with a non turbo, but do you use the same trailers?? for both trucks, I have a Cummins, and it pulls pretty good no matter what, but the heavier the trailer gets the more sluggish it gets to.

Mine is a 88 7.3 IDI california... nothing emmision that i can tell... big 4" pipe and a big k7n filter..... i out pull some 7.3 ps trucks loaded and or unloaded... just seems to pull like a beast...I run royal purple oil and that did help a bit with the eco.... i get 18 and the new ones struggle with 15 or so.... thats why i still have the older one and got rid of the newer one (was a 94 dually / auto 2wd ) that new one i had couldnt get 14 on a good day.... so i got my truck back.... never gonna do that again...
