Default Newbies Fuel System

OK. So I bought this 98 2500 5.9L Laramie 2wd with coupla hundred thou on her. My first diesel Truck is used infrequently, usually to tow my 29 ft travel trailer, otherwise she just sits. Truck is stone stock as far as I can tell and runs great.
Recently my fuel gauge has been intermittantly sticking or not working at all, plan on replacing the module. Additonally I have read and understand the need to change out my stock lift pump. (although it looks rather new and is providing 16 PSI at the cartridge canister test port ) So I figured what the heck, I'll do it all at one time.
Now for the questions: Since the truck is stock I planned on getting a FASS DDRP pump and remote mounting it on the frame near the tank. Can I mount a filter set in-between the tank and the pump? If not, where? Can ya'll suggest one? Do I leave the stock filter canister in place, remove it or what?
Liberty Fuel Module... is this an exact, direct plug n play replacement for my stock fuel module? If not, where do I get one? At this point I don't know if I have a pump in the tank or not. And this draw staw issue..... Is'nt a draw straw just a pick-up tube? Does the Liberty come with one? Do I need a different one?
I plan on installing a fuel pressure gauge during this operation and probably a trans temp gauge for towing. Are there any other gauges ya'll can recommend? Do I really need a pyrometer or boost gauge? This truck will be used mostly for towing the travel trailer and I don't need it breaking down with Momma breathing down my neck..... Want to do it right the first time and not have to worry 'bout it.
Sorry 'bout all the questions, but this diesel thing is addicting....
Been reading the forums non-stop. This is an excellent site and resource. I am impressed at the way everyone offers help and advice. Looking forward to the day I can do the same.
All comments are appreciated.

first of welcome!!
well i could help with a few questions im no expert on it all. i left my stock filter in place with a filter in it. from what i understand it doesnt hurt anything and surely wouldnt hurt having an extra filter. and it is also your fuel heater so it doesnt gel on you if its cold out. i have the fass platinum pump with filter on it. i believe the ddrp pump goes right in place of the factory pump mounted on the side of the block so in that case you would use the stock canister and filter. if you planning on mounting it at the back then your going to have to come up with a wiring harness of your own i would think to make to plug it in up front and run to the back. i would suggest getting a bigger one thats already designed to be mounted at the back then you have all the wiring and everything you need. talk to the sponsors on the site they will probably get you a better price than anyone else. and yes a drawstaw is just a pick up drilled into the tank to by pass the in tank pumps or if your needing more flow. hope this helps some and that im right with what im saying.
