Regular automotive paint will not hold up to the high temps you're looking at. There is some high temp paint made by VHT that you can get in a rattle-can, but the color selection is somewhat limited.

You might be able to get away with doing it on the intake and maybe the intercooler pipes, but I don't think it would last on much of the other stuff you mentioned.

You need to use their high temp primer. Plus depending on what you're putting it on (exhaust manifolds, turbine part of the turbo) it might be getting too hot. If you use the VHT Flameproof Coating, it's good up to 2000*.

Also, you need to make sure the part is 100% clean before applying any paint. I use Dupont Prepsol, but I'm not sure you can get that at a parts store. I get mine from a body supply shop. Just look for something that says it will remove stuff like grease and wax.

I just use lacquer thinner to prep stuff. It cleans well and it dries without leaving a film or residue

Yeah lacquer thinner works too. The important thing is the no residue part.

the paint now is only on my valve covers and intake and chipping so heat isnt really an issue would powdercoating be a better choice for durability
