Default 2005 cummins w/manual wastegate?

I am new to the site, so I hope this is how you do it. I have a 2005 dodge with the cummins. I have had the P0243 error code for some time so I wanted to get this fixed, which ended up being out of my budget, beings I am also having the Auto tranny rebuilt, which is just a buncg of fun. Anyways I saw somewhere that I could take out the electric soleniod and put in a manual one. I sourced all of the parts and they are now on there way to my house. Is this the right thing to do? Do I need gauges? or how will I now what my boost is on my stock turbo. At first I was thinking $100.00 vs $690.00. Now I am thinking, what am I doing? I also had plans to put the smarty JR in but with the manual waste gate actuator, am I going to be able to put a mod such as that in? As for the manual actuator, I bought some hex bushing looking thing with a seal, a boost elbow, and something they called a fooler, but it looks more like a cap for harness piece than a fooler. Maybe I am the fool and it is a fooler. Can some please help, am I going down the wrong road? Thanks
